Single RayJay unit running with 8.7:1 compression at 10psi boost is 220hp. 15 psi took it to 270hp.

Bill, I could gaze at that red one all day. Then I remind myself it has six carbs. ;D

         Oh I hear ya Bob, I hear ya loud and clear! 8)  The Red one is mighty sharp looking alright! Now, myself, I am that way about the black one ofmy buddy's uh I mean mine. ::) I HAVE to get my garage cleared out enough to get that beauty in there. I could easily get myself in trouble with the CBX, just as it is, much less if it hasd turbo and/or Nitrous! :o

The alternator doesn't "clank", the clutch "clanks".  Out-of-balance carbs seem to set up a resonance in the primary drive chain, and this causes the clutch basket to make that distinctive noise.  The twin-shock CBX has rubber dampers on the back of the clutch basket, the pro-link has springs.  The twin-shock doesn't have a tensioner on the primary drive, the pro-link does.  This makes the pro-link a helluva lot quieter.  By the way, all the later parts will retro-fit the earlier model (that's what I did with my '78 model).  And before people chime in and say that the first model was the '79, we got them 6 months or so earlier in Australia!

P.S.  The alternator makes a distinctive noise when it's clutch plates are worn - it "chirrups" (you'll know it when you hear it)!

P.P.S.  If the bike is making a CLICK CLICK from the center rear of the cylinder head when it's warm, it's probably not an intake valve.  The long camshaft is two piece, held together by an oldham coupling.  It's an interference fit, and with lots of miles on the clock the pieces will actually move and make the clicking noise.  It doesn't effect the bike at all, it's just annoying.

My eldest son has dibs on it (when I'm too old to ride).  He's fifteen & he first rode on it BEFORE he was born (his Mom's a keeper, that's for sure).

All you need now is a Kawasaki two-stroke triple (believe it or not, the motor feels very similar to the CBX)!

          I don't intend to sell the CBX OR the GPZ. Kinda wanted one of those 2 stroke triples too, for many years now and don't know if I will ever see that happen though. Got a buddy on here that has one or two of the H2s and he, for sure has ONE that is KILLER for Horse Power and "Screaming" Power! :o Gordon (ilbikes). His IS a FINE example! 8)

          I'll be taking very special care of the GPZ, not to mess something up like that. I would NEVER steam clean it anyway, but thanks for the info. Gonna do my best to keep the EFI as long as possible. Been toolin' around the neighborhood, tryin' to get used to those handlebars. Steering seems a bit stiff, not sure if it's too snug on the bearings or if there are some bearings that are out of round. Either way, I got a set of tapered bearings with the GPZ and will most likely swap them out soon and that should make a BIG difference.

From memory, my friend's GPz had REALLY heavy steering around town (but seemed to lighten-up when going around 100 mph sweepers).  His answer was to power-slide it through slow-speed corners!

       I'm finding out more about the CBXs as I go along. For example, the 79's had smaller wheels from the CB900F, a higher reading on the speedometer (120, I think it was), maybe there's more. The 80' had an 85mph speedometer, larger wheels and a small compartment in the tail section (only one to have that) I know there's more, just can't remember it all. Should have written it all down, I guess. ::) I Do remember that the 79 & 80 were the ones that runs better and the later ones were "detuned" Treated properly, maybe mine will not need any major work on it. I can just see trying to afford to have a bore job and buying 6 pistons, rings and such or replacing 24 valves!  :o  Hmmmm, I wonder how long it would take to do a Valve Adjustment? :D Sure am glad that the fellow I bought it from, is a REAL GOOD BUDDY! ;)

The 79-80's (commonly called the "twin-shock") have a lumpier cam.  This makes them a little more aggressive than the pro-link.  It was the 1st bike that had to be detuned for Germany's "new" 100BHP rule (it puts out 105BHP).

The instruments are bigger than the 900F/1100F - apparently this is to create the illusion that the bike is not so big.

The twin-piston brake calipers from a 900F will bolt straight onto the CBX fork legs (and are MUCH better).

The front brake master cylinder from a VF1000F will bolt straight on, looks standard, and DOES NOT LEAK like the original does.

Check the thin main fuse.  If it hasn't already been changed it will disintegrate in your fingers.

ALWAYS turn the fuel off when parked!  If a bit of grit gets into the left carbie it can hold the float valve open.  Due to the angle of the carbies the fuel may get into the left cylinder.  When you fire the bike up the resulting hydraulic lock will bend the conrod.  The pro-link's went to a vacuum fuel tap, but the manual one is much better.

If it won't start up after a long layup, drain the carbies, refill, and it will fire right up (I don't know why, but the float bowls seems to make the fuel go stale very quickly).

The twin-shock airbox may fade & make the bike look terrible.  The pro-link airbox fits straight on and has replaceable plastic inserts on the side (it looks much better).

If you win the lottery, buy a set of these.  I've heard them, and they are AWESOME!

          I'm appreciating the update on the info side.  Now, my buddy told me about the fuel shuoff deal. And I definitely don't need a bent rod in THAt engine. :( I knew that the 79-80 CBXs were more performance oriented. Don't understand why the 80' hads an 85 mph speedo though. Doesn't make any sense. Those 6 into 6 pipes are something else alright. I kinda like the look of the 6 into 1 , but I'm told that you lose power with that setup. Couldn't afford it anyway. :D  The set of pipes on this one, looks like the Kerker 6 into 2, not TOO big of a setup, GOOD sound, Nice looking AND they are alredy on the bike! 8)

     Any idea what an average mileage might be that I could get out of this, with the bike treated right (with SOME winding up). Just curious. I plan on riding this one more than my buddy did. Not all the time though, after all, I DO have the GPZ also and it will need it's legs "stretched out" now and then as well. ::) :D

I consistently get around 27 miles per gallon (that's with riding it like a pussy most of the time and the occasional bit of wide open throttle!)

           Those gauges are something else I will have to watch, because I'm told that you can "Peg" them easily and bend the needles. :-\

          Meowwwww! Hisss! Hissss! :o  Just kidding ya there Tim, Some of those suckers just look SOOO WICKED with those Turbos and those with the Wild exhaust systems! 8) I've got to get that garage cleaned out enough to get that one i n there, so I can bring it home! ::)

          I"M kinda wanting to see the "Frankenbike" finished myself. THAT bike is one NICE piece of work! 8) ;)
