That old AJS reminds me of a similar old Matchless from the  same era (mid 1950's) that I used to ride Steve.  The old AJS and Matchless "thumpers' single-cylinder bikes were very similar..and both made by AJS..if memory serves here. 
By today's riding standards though..they would be considered rough and loud..I believe.
I also highly doubt that one would see many..if any of the ladies with tattoos..as we see today LOL
