"Extra" wires in CB650C headlight bucket - any ideas?
« on: August 10, 2009, 06:08:31 PM »
Hey there, wondering if anyone can shed some light on this ... I am fixing up this 1980 CB650C, which is in generally pretty good shape, but someone used the headlight and front turn signals on another project, so I'm replacing those. Got a new set of lights from eBay for a good price, and when I connect them up everything works - turn signals, low beam, main beam etc.. BUT - there are some additional loose wire ends from the wiring harness that I don't know the purpose of. See the photo ... seems to be 3 green wires, and one black and one brown. All of them end in 'sockets' rather than plugs. Anyone know what these wires might be for? I've been looking at the wiring diagram in the Clymers manual but haven't figured it out yet. The one possible clue is that on the wiring diagram, the front signals have a third ground wire marked with a dotted line, that is supposed to connect to green - but the signals I have don't as far as I can see have a third connector, just blue/blue+white and orange/orange+white. Any suggestions? As far as I can tell all the electrics work now, so I'm really not sure what these wires might be for ...

There are a few extra from the factory.  Cant remember if those are all but sounds about right.  If everything works dont worry about them.  Just make sure they wont ground on anything.  The brown is running lites. green is ground. Black ?.

Given the Honda thrifty adage, could they be an extra set for different lighting options? 750 holdover wiring harness. They remind me of the rear connectors for the lights and signals, but being on the other end....
