74 CB200 throttle cable
« on: August 15, 2009, 03:06:05 PM »
Ordered a new throttle cable for my CB200. Looks exactly like my old throttle cable...same length and same routing (do have clubmans on the bike).  Having trouble with the install...when twisting the throttle there is little tension, and the carb slide springs do not pull the throttle back to resting position when tension is removed from the throttle grip.  I am wondering if new throttle cables require lubrication or if they ship lubricated.  Any insight on that?  The throttle cable was ordered online from cycle parts warehouse.  Thanks!

To provide more detail.....I install both of the throttle slides onto the carbs but leave the throttle grip diassembled, I can pull the cable to it's maximum displacement on the throttle end and there is no tension to return the cable to rest...it just remains extended to that point.  I hope this description is making sense...I delayed posting for some time because I wasn't sure of how to properly word this issue.

Are you certain your throttle slides aren't gummed up?  I just bought a cable too but don't have the throttle switch connected yet.  I'll follow your post....

OK....I had earlier found a post in this forum where somebody mentioned "install your throttle slides right and it works perfectly, install them wrong and you have problems."  Even though I had reinstalled the slides many times, I finally figured out that by flipping the slides 180 degrees (from how my slides were installed) allowed the slides to drop further into the carb body, thereby consuming the cable excess on the the throttle slide.  I believe my troubles are over.  We'll see how the cable adjusts once running.
