Well . the Plot thickens. I have been working with a Local guy here in Hollywood.
We have been trying to Isolate the problem by attacking things one at a time. We
have adjusted the valves several times, cleaned, synced the Carbs. (added Pods,
so rejetted and adjusted the needle). No change, though, in the cylinders. We adjusted
the timing.. no change.
The newest theory is this. It's possible that after sitting unridden for 25 years that
some of the springs sat in a compressed position and that they will not recover.. not
to mention valve seals and some rubber in there may be cracked and/or brittle.
Interestingly enough we got a great compression test today.. 150 in all 4 cylinders!
we tested the motor when it was barely warm.. so I think if it were hotter, the # would
be higher.. but it was consistant.. and within spec.. so thats good.
one other thing we did was to remove the headers and run the engine. This is where it got interesting.
#'s 3 & 4 had wet oil on top of the valves. 1 & 2 were dry.. while they were both firing,
#2 was spitting fire (but has a fouled plug) and # 1 was seemingly normal..
3 & 4 just were not firing.
Any input on this scenario is welcome.
