750k. new harness: blown fuses
« on: June 15, 2012, 09:41:16 AM »
I replaced my wiring harness yesterday. Everything looked good, no extra wires, etc. With the ignition on my idiot lights come on, but when I turn on the headlight my main fuse blows. I systematiclly disconnected all wiring involving the headlight, turnsignal and running light circuts, with the same results. So even though the ignition and charging circuts are 'live' wires, I still pop the main fuse when I hit the headlight button.

Any ideas? I know its difficult to diagnose electrical problems without seeing the bike, but I'm sure someone can at least point me in the right direction.

Thanks

Assuming it only happens when the headlight switch is on, Sounds like a short on the headlight circuit.  Looking at the diagram could be the bulb, the hi/lo switch or the actual on off switch itself.

Still not really sure though, its odd that the headlight fuse doesn't blow as well.

Absolutely. That's why its strange that I disconected that circut and it's still blowing fuses.
