Newb from Detroit, Mi
« on: August 25, 2009, 05:41:19 AM »
Hello, another noob from the Detroit area...

I'm in my late 30's(damn that sounds bad), A wife and 2 kids(3yr old son, 9yr old daughter), I just started riding a few years ago and I picked up a chopped 1970CB750 in Feb...

I'm new to bikes in general and pretty much suck at mechanical crap... PC hardware and software, 3d Tool Design(Unigraphics/Catia) are more my thing but I cant afford to pay people to fix my bike anymore so I turn to the internet for guidance...

I've gotten my hands dirty replacing the stator cover(after the throttle locked open, came off the handlebars and bike took off and cracked it), now I want to do more. So I figured I'd fix that leaky oil tank... What a mess that's turning into.

Aside from a paintjob, Some of the things I plan on doing to the bike are... Replace front wheel with a spoke wheel to match the rear, repair the broken spokes on rear wheel, modify or replace(reposition?) the oil tank as currently it burns the crap out of my leg, fab up a new cover for the electrical connections(again the current piece cuts into my leg), reposition the gauges from the handlebars to the top of the triple tree(I'm thinking a bracket mounted in place of the spacer that's currently on there), explore the oil leak near the cylinder head and a 2 up seat... My daughter loves riding on motorcycles and she wasn't happy when I got rid of the NH and picked this up. As you can see in the pic, a NH450 was way too small for me.

When I picked up this ratbike I figured most of the hard stuff was done(Engine was rebuilt 2000 or miles ago)... I don't have a garage so working on it is a pain in the ...  I plan on riding it will the snow starts falling; then tear down some of the easier stuff then.

I was 60lbs heavier in 07 as well ;-)

Bear on a bicycle... thats what they called me at work.

Not a bad starter bike, I paid $300 for the CB450 and all I had to do was run a few cans of seamfoam through it and a set of tires...  7000 miles later...Sold it for $500 on Craigslist in 6 hours last summer.
