Sorry for your loss Cliff  :'( :'(   They are special friends aren't they? Buddy has crossed the Rainbow Bridge...

Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Thanks guys! It's amazing how deep these pets get into your heart and leave a large hole when they leave. The house IS quiet except for some very large sighs and the more than occasional sob.

Of all God's creatures there is only one that cannot be made the slave of the lash. That one is the cat. If man could be crossed with the cat it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat.

The first Bernese we (my missus & I ) had was a thug, and he and I hated each other with a vengeance. But we kept him until he died of mast (?) cell cancer at eight years old. Man, I wept like a baby for a week.
So I know exactly what you're going thru.

Cliff, Here's MY version of Buddy, his name was Kevin. He passed on several years ago (ashamed to say I don't remember how many years though)   He WAS a REAL gem, like I'm sure Buddy was. My heart goes out to you.   Maybe Buddy has found Kevin. ;)  Thing is, I posted this phot sometime back and had not noticed that Kevin was in this photo or had just forgotten that he was there. ::)  Kevin was my BIG BAD watchdog. :D

When our daughter was about 10, she asked for a dog.  I said no at first, but later agreed only if she could find a dog like my sisters and she would take care of it.  So my sister, my wife and daughter went to the humane society and managed to find a dog that fit the bill.  (I didn't think they could do it).  I attended obedience school with the dog (She was 10 months old at adoption).  After a few months my daughter lost interest in the critter. That dog ended up adopting ME.  We had her for another 12 years until her passing.   I could not bear to have the vet take care of her body, so I paid to have her cremated.  She sits on my dresser in her little urn, waiting for me to cross the Rainbow Bridge and join her.

Buddy is also being cremated and will join his friend Bear on a shelf in our family room. I'm glad he died at home, in his bed, with us nearby. I had a call into the vet to help him along but I'm glad the vet didn't call back. On top of everything else it was our son's wedding on Saturday. Buddy kept going until that was over and we give thanks for that. I don't think I've ever been so sad in my 60 years.
Cliff.

Don't worry Cliff, I get upset when I loose a gold fish and I have hundreds, it must be much worse with a pet you can interact with though.

i'm sorry for your loss magpie. he looked like quite the character from your picture. it's remarkable how profound the little ones can affect your life and they likely can never know what they do for us.
