CB 500 KO Restoration/ Modification
« on: November 27, 2005, 10:56:30 AM »
Hi all

Im new to your club and am in the process of restoring a 500 of 1971 vintage.
I am seeking any assistance/ advice on two topics:

1.Converting front end from a one disc to a twin disc brake setup.

2. Is it possible to use a CB750 fuel tank to increase fuel capacity and hence range?

Thanks in advance

Hello Graham and welcome to the sohc band.

I'm afraid that a 750 tank is not a straight swap, but if you are into customising, you can make anything fit.  If you really want a bigger tank and don't mind ruining the classic looks of the old 500 you can fit a tank/seat from a 550K3. I did this in the 70's (see avatar) - but you need the seat as well to fit the tank profile. Also the 550 seat mount spacing is different so you'll need to do a little work on that.

PM me or Jim Shea if you would like to join the UK mailing list.

PS - check out my 500 and 550 in the Gallery, and post some pics of yours.

Twin disc relatively easy i have that on a word document if you email me direct i will send you it, tank dont fit. If its 71 in UK it ought to be an import as according to Honda we didnt get any till 72. Just for my records i would be interested in the frame number, engine number and if it has a vin plate the month/ year shown on that to see where it fits in among the list i already have
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Remember "Its always in the last place you look" COURSE IT IS YOU STOP LOOKIN THEN!
