Very long term storage . . . in the living room. Non-sohc.
« on: November 27, 2005, 10:18:55 AM »
I have an old Kawasaki H2  I can’t bring myself to sell and I’ve really lost interest in the thrill of riding it super fast  in a straight line.  I have more room in my house than in my shop so it’s now in the living room with no oil and no gas.  It will probably stay there for a very long time. After reading the faq and searching on storage I still have a couple of questions.

Would it be better to leave it in the shop winterized the way the faq describes considering the shop is not really heated or insulated  (I only run the space heaters when I’m in there)?

Inside w/out fluids . . . what harm if any will come to the engine (currently has fogging oil in the cylinders)?

Do I need to drain the fork oil or brake fluid?

Think that’s it.

Keeping any bike in a climate controlled area is definately a good thing IMHO. It goes a long way in preserving the looks and finish, or at the very least, will slow down the aging process due to the elements. Every bike sold spent time in a showroom, right? I've kept my 750 in the kitchen since it's restoration two years ago. It has worked very well for me, and I am glad that I am not the only one who does this. I salute you gentleman.
This sounds like a good subject for another survey thread. :)

If it leaks you will have to arrange to have it knicked again.....claim on the insurance......get yourself a CB750. ;D ;D

I was round at Tommy Robbs a few weeks ago and allthough I did'nt see it he said he had a mint 400 in his garage.

I'll ask to see it next time I am there.

The guy I bought the 750 from way back in 1977 kept it in his living room.  He had a board ramp he used to get it up and down the front steps.  When I got the bike, it was 2 years old with 3900 miles and immaculate.  It may have been the cleanest thing in his house.

I'm not single, but I'm sure if I were to bring the bike into the house, I would be again.  ;D

Use the correct length of 2X12 and ramp kit available at Home Depot and you're set. I even ride up the ramp. ;D

Here is a pic of the same K0 in my avator sitting in my
kitchen in 1970.  I recently needed it to confirm the
color of the Honda emblems on the side of the tank. ;D

I had owned the bike for all of one month at this point.

NOW I've got it!  When I get the CBX 1100-6 "dream bike" I can just put it inside my house!

Dear Hubby will REALLY like that!

Linda

PS Bronco Bike is asking to retire to Hawaii-since she doesn't run if temps are under 60 degrees and it is minus 10 tonight!  Also, she would like an island because she doesn't go further than 30 miles on any trip and so we could circle the island twice!!!!
