This one is always hit and miss, some years are better than others.  I have been aboard my sailboat in the Slate Islands in Northern Lake Superior  three times for this.  One was spectacular, one was a dud, and the last in 2005 was supposed to be a good one and it was the only cloudy night out of the whole two weeks. :(

It doesn't get dark enough here till after midnight up here.  By then I'm too tired to be on the road looking for a good spot to see it.
I farted and made my son cry.

Saw a great Perseid shower when a friend and I were hiking up near Taos, New Mexico.
Lost count at 100. Being at 10,000 feet helps the view, what a view.  :o

It's been cloudy every night here...another night of lying on the beach watching the show gone. :'(

When I used to smoke, I'd have a last cigarette for the night outside.  It usually took me about 10 minutes to smoke it, and during that time, I'd enjoy the stars and such.  Many of those times I'd catch a glimpse of a meteor.  I guess what I'm saying is you can see them all throughout the year - they're just more frequent during the meteor showers when we pass through the path of a comet.

So if anyone missed it this year, just keep looking up and you'll see some.
