wow, a craigslist lost pet ad actually WORKED
« on: August 12, 2009, 04:50:03 AM »
for those of the members here that dont already know it. i'm a major league cat person and i catch and get them spayed/neutered when i have the extra money to do it. Marie, a little apricot pointed siamese has been hanging around for about 2 years now and i've been feeding her, got her spayed a year and a half ago. she "helps" me out in the garage when i'm working on something, in fact i had to crate her when i welded because she didnt care, she'd just walk right through the work area. well she disappeared 13 days ago and after calling animal control every day i put an ad in the pets community section of craigslist on saturday. i got an email at around midnight that they THOUGHT they had my cat. i wasnt getting my hopes up as the wording just looked a little off to me. but finally at 7 this morning i couldnt hold it in anymore after sitting up all night watching the clock and i called the number in the reply. this lady actually FOUND her at the resturant up at the corner and she was afraid she would get hit by a car, since i have been working hard to tame marie (she was born feral) she allowed this lady to pick her up and put her in her car. she took her to a vet to get her scanned for a microchip and got her shots since she wasnt sure if she had had them or not. i was ready to throw some pants on and go RIGHT out to get her when this lady told me how much she had enjoyed having marie there and that marie even played with her dog. i asked this lady if she would like to keep her and my only conditions were that she were kept indoors and cared for as much as i did. so today miss Marie has a new, loving home and really, thats all i gave a damn about, that she was ok.

Great story bucky. What a nice lady she must be and I'm sure that Marie will have a nice home. It gives me renewed faith in people.

pretty cat

Glad she is in a good home

One thing about cats are they are only happy when they get what they want... just like girls  :P

BUT unlike a woman, cats can actually be perfectly happy at all times, fresh water (mine also get ice in their fresh water) fresh palatable food and some cat-dope (also known to non cat people as cat nip)

it;s funny, here i am a 370 pound, long haired, bearded, tattoed scary looking biker type and i'm getting all emotional about a stray cat i've been feeding. damnit though, i'm going to miss reading the paper in my chair with her out front eyvery early afternoon when i get up, having her "help" me out in the shop and greeting me when i get home from wherever.

Aww, that's a cute cat. Glad you got her back safe and sound.

"Get scanned for a microchip?" What is she, a bionic kitty now? Now that's something to be afraid of.

No, Bzr, now there are systems like Homeagain and Avid that use a tiny microchip the size of a grain of rice implanted under kitty's skin, so if/when kitty gets out and caught, kitty can be scanned and kitty's owners notified that someone found kitty.  All our cats have chips, especially Bodhi (aka Jungle Boy) because of his escape artist tendencies.

both hamish and gus are microchipped too because of THEIR pasts as escape artists. hamish hasnt done it in about 5 years but gus did about 6 months ago and i was a total basketcase. the little bastard came back about 3am meowing loudly to be let in, then telling me off it seemed for taking so long  :D Gus is the "slightly" relaxed tuxedo cat, 3 in march. Hamish turned 13 on june 16th.

My cat is chipped.  It cost about $60 with registration.  If he ever gets picked up by SPCA or another person they can scan between the sholder blades; and enter the # in a database that tells them my info and all the info about the cat.

Collers can fall off or get snagged on things.

All it takes is 1 time you pet runs away from home to wish you had him/her chipped.
