Start Bike Without Keys?
« on: September 16, 2009, 06:18:36 PM »
I know it sounds stupid, but my keys have been lost to my 73 CB500.....can I still kick start it without the key? I just got a new battery since the old one was bad, and I just got the bike so I havent tried it yet, but was curious...

I dont know what I'm going to do without the keys...any suggestions?

Buy a new key switch with keys.  It was $35 for my Rebel.

Lots of posts on this if you search. Easiest thing is to take out the lock core and turn the ignition with a screwdriver. hondakeys.com can get you a new set if you know the code.

I got my rebel set off the ebay, but it wasn't honda oem, just some chinese thing.

If you pop the lock and use the screw driver technique you can use the electric start.

Just curious, has anyone ever put keyless or pushbutton start on their bike? I know this sounds like extreme overkill, but I was thinking about building a biometric pushbutton start for my bike. I work on these little security devices for a living and was curious if there was any interest on here if I put together a kit for one. Anyone ever see anything like this (using  fingerprints or a proximity keyfob) to start their bike?

Why not unplug the ignition switch and jump a wire between the red and the black.

The easiest way is to remove the cylinder, pull the plastic switch off the bottom turn it by hand and you can work on the bike while you wait for a new key. Real simple. No, with the key off why do u think u could kickstart it? If that were so, why would you need a key?  ;D
