VM29's emulsion tube threads are stripped on the carb body
« on: August 13, 2009, 09:27:00 AM »
How the heck am I going to fix this?  Has anyone dealt with this before?  These carbs were built for constant jetting changes and I guess someone went one too many turns at some point and stripped out the threads on the emulsion tube.  I was thinking jb weld as the quick fix, but is there a way to helicoil this?  Has anyone done this before?  Know the thread dimensions?

Any information would be great, thanks fellas.  My 836 is fiending for fuel.

HEY GRIMACE !  I had the same problem on a set of 29 smoothbores, 2 bodies were stripped.  DEVCON is the best stuff in my opinion.  I used a flat tooth pick and smeared a little on the threads and installed the tubes. Then i smeared a little more around the base of the tube. I then let it sit for 24 hours, then installed the carbs, and never had a problem again. I even did jet changes many times as i had them on a 1132 kawasaki that i had over the years. They are still being used now on another bike !!   ;D

Will the Devcon allow me to take the emulsion tube out at a later time or is it permanent?

Sounds like a good idea so far!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo hahaha.

Doesnt the emulsion tube thread into the Jet block?  If so, I could take the jet block out plug it and retap it.  That or Sudco still has a PN for it, I might see how much it costs.  Does this sound right?

The emulsion tube screws into the aluminum body. Here is an exploded view of the carbs. When you get the picture, left click on the diagram to enlarge it. # 42 needle jet just screws into the body, no other piece is there.  :(
Good luck !   ;D    http://www.pjmotorsports.com/Jets%20Pics/expvm29.gif

What I'm saying is that the needle jet screws into the Jet block, not the carb body.

Hell, it's been so long sense i have seen the insides of a mikuni. I run a SU carb on my turbo. I'll have to take a trip to my friends shop and take a look at a carb to see what yer talking about.   ;D

Yeah, that was waay back in the day when I just got these carbs (yesterday) and thought that the ET was tapped into the carb body.  I should change the title, but it's not really broken, just wrong.
