530 x- ring chain yes.
Sorry it took so long to get back to you guys. I had one of those EK screw type links which you put on with hand tools and is super strong but no one ever told me need a chain breaker to break it off.

I did end up going on one short ride with the chain before I read this for the first time. I put paint on the spot it was rubbing and the paint is still there as you can see in the photo.
The main reason why I wasn't super super concerned (But still concerned) is it seems that it was rubbing in the back on a casting part that was raised up a little and I'm not even sure if there oil behind there that far back in the case? Now if it was wearing form the top of the chain into the front of the case that chain would have been in the garbage no questions asked.
So here are some photos with the chain off. 1st 3 are will the paint on. 4th one is with it all cleaned up showing the wound.
Like you said it is risky business, please don't think I,m trying to be ignorant. I'm just a little confused why it was rubbing and then just suddenly stopped.
If you still think I need to ditch that chain
speak up and I'll get on of those Diamond non o-rings chains that hondaman talks about. (But I think I already know what I got to do.
