So, what would happen if you drive without plates?  ;D

WTF are you talking about, man?  Wall Street pays 90% of the taxes for NY state as it is.

The real problem is the budget going UP by $13 BILLION dollars, even though Wall Street has been laying off and stuck in hiring freezes since November 2008, so tax revenues are lower.

That's called STUPID, and that's what you get with Paterson and his buddies in Albany.

Doh! Thanks again Wall Street.  >:(

Outside of the larger Metropolitan areas, NY is a piss poor rural State and it getting poorer as what small manufacturers are closing down. Downstate NY pays the bulk of the taxes since we have the bulk of the population and more businesses Downstate supports the State Government. I pay no less then 10X the property taxes that my in laws upstate pay. It is not unusual to have a 3,000 sq ft house on a 1/2 acre lot pay $20,000 in property tax in my Town.
Realistically a $5.00 bump in vehicle registraion fees is chump change considering the other numbers we pay.

Don't Tread On Me.

Seems every few years we elect a new king.

I'm tired of paying to get run in my bum.

Bobby, you didn't read the links, huh.  It isn't JUST a small bump in registration fees.  There is also a new plate fee, with an additional fee just in case you wish to keep your old plate number (so you don't have to change it with EZ-Pass, etc.), and various other increases.  The minimum fee (JUST FOR THE MANDATORY NEW PLATE) is $25 per vehicle.

As you say, for you, living in Scarsdale, the increase may not seem like much relative to your income and assets.  However, for the average New Yorker, say a secretary at a sign shop in Selkirk, NY, that's a major pain in the ass.

I despise taxes as much as the next guy, maybe more. I am just tired of shoveling shid against the tide, the tide always wins somehow.

It's no different in most other places (probably everywhere). The government needs more $ and they will get it one place or another. If they didn't raise registrations and plate fees they would raise taxes on cigarettes or booze or on your income or....... just name your poison.

Has anyone heard the option of cutting congress's salaries ever come up in the discussions on how to balance the budget? My salary was cut 10%, it s*cks but it's better than a 100% pay cut. Like Bobby I'm getting tired of fighting the tide of stupidity in government.

That's it... someone give me 10 minutes on national TV.

Write your congressman. Make phone calls. Don't just sit there and stir up people with links to stores.

Stop #$%*ing and do something.

They should be afraid of us. Not we afraid of them. We put them there. We can remove them. We only need to yell loud enough.

I wrote 250 emails today. Will do more and more until someone either writes me back or calls me on the phone. I'm sick of this.

We are being taxed without representation. Did they ask us (the constituents) about it? No. Maybe we should revolt.

Sending snail mail is better than emails, something they can physically hold in their grubby, little hands.
