My Baby is getting a facelift
« on: August 15, 2009, 07:18:32 AM »
It has been some time since my last post on here.

My baby has been real good to me. unlike the women in my life.   "that's another post entirely"

So I decided to give my baby what shes been asking for.  A facelift, aka body work and paint job.

since I don't do either, and I wanted to have it done right. I went to a local metal works garage, and so my little tale begins...

here is my baby last year all polished up for a ride last year...

now I have had a couple dents and scratches over the years so I felt real glad about doing this.

the garage i took her to gave the tank an acid flush, sandblasting, and body filler.

then after giving it much consideration I chose a new color for my baby.

I wanted to be original like anyone would. So i didn't take the decision lightly.

I really put some thought into this.

so the painting process began.

in keeping with the original "HONDA" format
there has to be two colors that complement eachother

i think i did a good job at choosing the color combo

okay so by this time i was salivating outside the paint booth door

i mean really!

who has ever decided to change the color of his bike and been happy afterwords?

i was nervous

none of the "CB's" Ive seen even have anything close to what this was going to look like.

defiantly original

so i guess I wait till the doors open to see...

all was quiet from inside the booth...

I said a silent prayer....

crossing my fingers as I heard the lock unlatch...

did I make the right decision?

take a look...

Now I don't think Ive ever seen a JADE CB650 before.

and to tell the truth I haven't yet.

you see theres one little thing standing in the way...

tank sealer

after the acid treatment and welding. a tank sealer was ordered special to finish the job.

it hasn't gotten here yet. so I wait.

delivery is scheduled for monday 8/17/09

once the sealer is used it will need to cure for 72 hours "NO LESS"

I'm chewing on the furniture at this point waiting to get it all back together.

Ive polished all that I can polish, rebuilt the break calipers. and painted them back to their original gloss black.

and so i wait.

but soon my Baby will be...

Makes you want to wrap it in plastic so it doesn't get anything on it right?

Looks great. I like the colors, very green with envy.  ;)

Very nice!!! I've learned how to paint using the multi part paints and I can say I now have an even healthier respect for the painters that can make it look so good, it is an art form. Love the colors can't wait to see them in the sun, you'll definately have to do pics of that!

Would it be inappropriate to ask how much you paid for this great paint job? The reason I ask is I'm trying to figure out the ball park for insurance reasons. You don't have to be exact (or if you feel it is inappropriate, you don't have to answer either  ;) ) just wondering.

Must be sure to post pics of the finished product as well!

Sure it's for sale! How much you ask?? Well, how much are you willing to pay??? Now triple it, that's the price!

Brandon, as far as the price is concerned. Im paying for all the supply's and $350.00 for the labor. total will be near $500.00 US   When done.

by my estimate I might have it all together and photographed by next week.

but im kind of tired of holding my breath.

but trust me, I will be real proud to post the Photo of the finished product.

Thanks for the info, thats considerabely less than I thought it would be (that is not a comentary on quality or anything, more on my inability to estimate stuff  ;) ) This just shows the difference between pros and do it yourselfers like me, I've easily got that much tied up in the paint, and I haven't had to pay myself hourly wages yet  ;D In all seriousness though, really looking forward to the finished product pics, you are gonna have something to be very proud of!

okay

I got the tank sealant "POR-15"

and yesterday i watched as the inside of the tank was coated to completion.

with that the side panels were buffed and polished.

I was able to bring them home with me. so today I put them in place.

so heres the first teaser photo of the finished product.

I'm not a huge fan of green either, but I didn't want to say anything. Besides, after what I've learned about what it takes to do a good paint job, I'm impressed no matter what the color!

Still all that being said, I like it!!

I don't like green.... but that bike would be mine if someone left the keys in it. I'd even rock it that color until I was busted.

Damn coolness.
