Topic: Removing carbureators on 1973 CB750 (Forks stamped 07/72)

If I down loaded the correct manual from the forum both it and the Clymer are in agreement as to removing the carbs.  Please tell if this is correct:
1) Remove fuel tank
2) Disconnect throttle cables at link lever
3) Loosen air cleaner connecting and insulator bands
4) Remove carbs as assembly.
Just looking it makes the above seem to simple.  Am I at the right place and is the way I try to proceed?

Sounds about right and is pretty simple.  Be sure to drain the float bowls of gas and disconnect the carb drain tubes on the bottom.  Your note does not mention it, but you will remove the air cleaner completely as you will need the space as you pry the carbs loose from the rubbers.  So you will loosen the metal bands in front of and in back of the carbs.  Good luck with it.

And dont be suprised if the insulator rubbers are stiff as hell and the carbs really don't want to come off.  Just use patience, lots of wiggling, and keep a towel close to mop up the sweat!!

Good point.  They are usually hard to get off and a pair of gloves will save your hands a bit.  When I reinstall I put a bit of grease on the rubber to help it slip in easier.  But I still use a 2x4 to pry on the frame to slowly work the carb bank back on.  You may end up replacing the rubbers on the air cleaner as they usually shrink after all those years.  You can still get those from Honda for like $20 for the 4.  Be sure you watch how the rubbers come off the air box as they are beveled and have to go on a certain way to line up with the carbs.
