Brake Pad Frozen in caliper
« on: August 15, 2009, 02:28:48 PM »
I'm trying to change the front brake pads on a CB550 that has been sitting in a barn for 5 years. The pad in the caliper with the piston is frozen and I'm having a x#@*! time trying to get it out. I loaded it up with WD-40 overnight, I drilled a screw into the pad  to get some leverage but it ain't budging. Would heat loosen it up? Or any other ideas would be helpful.
Thanks.

Mine was stuck pretty bad but was able to push it out using the brake lever. Let the brake hydrolics do the work do the work of pushing it out. See if you can't pump the lever to push it. But do check the FAQs.

+1.  If the master cylinder works, it has never failed me forcing one out...

Problem is that there is no master cylinder so I will try grease gun method described in tips and tricks.
Thanks.

You could have one hell of a time getting that piston out if one end was exposed to air.
Try the grease gun or about 120 psi, hopefully you can get the wheel and caliper off to make the job a little easier on you. Just make sure you have a backstop to catch the piston if you use compressed air.
