cb550 vs cb650 valve springs... COIL BINDING?
« on: June 16, 2016, 08:08:46 PM »
Common midrange improvement trick = run cb650 cam in otherwise stock cb550.

Anybody ever compare the valve springs to determine if it's possible that running a cb650 cam in a cb550 could cause coil bind?

Anybody have some (good/stock/OEM) cb650 valve springs who can measure them for me? How many coils, diameter of coil wire, height uncompressed and height at the bind point (inner and outer?)

Thanks
I recently restored and sold a 77 cb750f, and am nearly finished with a (former basket case) cb750k5.  This is a place to share, learn and enjoy.  I am grateful to and for 99+% of this site's membership.

Check the parts fiche to see if they both use the same parts in their respective motors.

The 1980's CB 900 DOHC cams are a direct swap out for a CB 750 DOHC set up for the same performance upgrade and I have never heard of an issue with that swap.
Common sense.....isn't so common!
