That sucks.......I think If I had to trim such a thing I think I would sandwich it between a couple pcs of ply wood with the right size hole and gently use a drum sander, dremal or drill press...

But with all that you have going on, with this awesome build, I would be looking for them to send me the right one

Cometic have a new one on the way, and suggested I use a dremel atop the bores to try cutting the old one. This makes me a little norvous, so I'll likely try something else.

Ring gaps have all been filed to .010"-.012". Gonna start putting it back together this afternoon!

head gasket cut to 66mm holes, re-annealed, and coated with copper gasket spray:

Paul, in all seriousness....I think it will be fine. Go ahead and put it together. it'll hold together just fine. Your attention to detail is so far above others, that you won't have a problem. Go ahead and run her with the 750 carbs.

thanks, joe. it's going together already.. pistons and cylinders are installed. found TDC and attached the timing wheel. i had to disassemble the valves on the #1 cylinder to remove clay from when i was checking clearances, and the exhaust valve spring retainer flew across the room. i only have a half hour or so left to work tonight, so i guess the head isn't going on tonight. tomorrow, i hope...

It's been a busy weekend and I haven't had much time to work on the bike, but I finally got the cam timed, valve lash adjusted, and everything else assembled and put the engine in the bike. All i need is oil, pipes, and a couple nitpicky things and i'lll be back on the road. tomorrow hopefully!

I have it back together and started, though it was a bit anticlimactic. It started right up, but was stumbling a little bit. I checked the timing, which was a little retarded. still it was running a little poorly... at first I thought this was possibly due to poor carb sync since the cylinder vacuums will be different now than before, but then I discovered that cylinders 2 and 4 were cold. Kinda sucks I did my first heat cycle with two dead cylinders, but what am I gonna do? At least they got lots of compression?

Hopefully I'll have time to sort it out tomorrow.

Well, the good news is it is running beautifully and the engine is broken in. The bad news is that the head gasket leaking. Cometic has the new one en route, so I'll just have to swap them out when it gets here. A little frustrating, but at least it's running, and well. I had some fault signal on the Dyna 2000 and it wasn't working, but it mysteriously started working again.

Oh, and Cadaver has agreed to work out a deal for his CR29's he bought but hasn't installed.

Maybe you should wait until some planets are aligned or something before you replace that gasket!

I'm sure you layered up several coats of copper spray? I'm not sure what difference the new gasket will offer, but I wish you luck getting the buggar to seal next time.

yes, I used plenty of copper spray. I imagine I just didn't get it flat enough after cutting the holes, though that seems difficult to do since the copper is so soft... you'd think any irregularities would get flattened out when the head was torqued.

the frustrating thing? I just left the shop for 15 minutes and UPS tried to deliver the new one.

Last night was a good night. I pulled the head off, and the leaking part of the gasket was obvious right away. the strange thing is... several bolts were loose, though I know for a fact that they were all torqued properly. anyway, i have the new gasket on hand and will be on the road here in a couple hours.

When I left the shop, I stopped for a nice bottle of wine on the way home. When I got there, I asked my girlfriend to leave, and spent an intimate evening with these guys instead:
