Velocity stacks hooked to stock carb of CB550
« on: August 18, 2009, 03:13:06 PM »
Found something interesting today. My carbs were leaking gas so I began to investigate and took off the plushy pod filters that were attached to the carbs when I originally got the bike. Turns out when I got them off the rubber bits clamped to the carb were torn and the whole filter was being bypassed through the torn seal....on all four filters. So after a complete cleaning and maintainence of the carbs, to get the dirt and crap out, I am now needing to replace the filters. Since I am going for a cafe racer look I am thinking of going with velocity stacks with the mesh inserts and cloth booties on them. Tough part is finding them. Anyone know where I could find some mesh filled velocity stacks (they look like microphones) and filter booties to go over them? Plus, from my measurements the ends of the carbs are 38.9mm. Is that stock and normal? The deeper I dig on my bike the worse it gets so now I am questioning everything on the sucker.

Do you know what he did for the search? I wonder if the old style "microphone" stacks have a special name or brand.
