Signal buzzer,beeper
« on: August 18, 2009, 12:24:55 pm »
Does anyone know where the signal buzzer is located on a 1978 CB550?
My search query only got me a lot of complaints about them LOL,  but not where it's located.
Thanks

What does it attach to? I've just aquired it and the rubber housing on it has a slit that allows it to slide onto some sort of metal tang?
I've looked for a mounting spot behind the head light case but I really can't see anything that it would hook onto.

On the left headlight mount/upper fork cover is a metal tab with a square hole in it.  The buzzer mounts there and faces toward the rider.

Rather than remove it its a lot easier to unplug it...inside the headlight shell.

good luck

I posted a thread last week about replacing mine with  $5 piezo buzzer from Radio Shack and wiring it to the brake light so it only beeps when the brake light  is off. I love this because when I am stopped it doesn't beep, and then when I get off the brake and make the turn it beeps to remind me to turn it off. With a new solid-state flasher my turn signals blink consistently and the beeper works consistently, regardless of RPMs. This makes me happy.

For the removal crowd...
The buzzer is a nag so you don't drive down the road for miles with the blinker on like an idiot, further confusing drivers that are already over taxed with driving responsibilities/decisions.  Do you really want to add to their barely achievable work load with added decisions about WTF you might do?
But, if you prefer to do that than have the nag then.... :-X

It also alerts pedestrians that you are turning and just *may" keep them from stepping in front of you.
But, these things are far less important than your riding reverie and self image (some say).

Or you can get in the habit of turning off the turn signal...Just like setting the trip meter at each fill up.

That freakin' buzzer lasted about 5 seconds on my ride.

Very good Llyod. Well if you need someone or something to tell you to turn your blinkers off then you keep your little buzzy friend. I for one find it a distraction, an irritation and would much prefer the silence when sitting at stop lights...Ill take my chances with the stupid pedestrians thanks. Thats what the HM300s are for. One growl from them and it thins the crowd  ;)

cheers

I keep mine for entertainment purposes at stoplights.  The pedestrians looking around wondering where that damn beeping is coming from.  I'll turn my head from side to side pretending I am looking for it too. ;D

5 seconds?  yeah, umm, the MINUTE I saw it, it was being disconnected and unwillingly removed to go into a milk crate of misc parts that displease me and shall one day be sacrificed to the gods of speed.

actually it's primary reason was as a pedestrian warning system (if you believe early owners manuals). I have to say I kept mine because riding in NYC the thing is effective. YOu should see the ped's heads spin toward me when they hear the beep, keeps the idiots looking the wrong way from stepping out in front of me.

I notched the signal housing on my bike when I found that I could turn the switch enough to turn the blinker on without the buzzer coming on. it is nice to have a choice to use it or not. I basically found the spot in the travel where the light comes on and the buzzer does not and took a miniacule chunk out of the housing with a dremel up to that point. Then I bent the switch down slightly (careful it is really easy to break). so now if I want the buzzer I lift the switch slightly with my thumb and can move it the rest of the travel.
