Correct Key ?

I received the key(s) and papers to a '76 Trident almost three years ago, that we finally got to bring home the other day.

There is a key on the ring that SEEMS to fit, but the cylinder doesn't move at all.

How can I tell if I have the correct key, as opposed to a stuck ignition lock?

The key blank says Union Made in England on one side.  On the other is a number FS 8844 and names Wilmot Breeden.  The top of the key is more or less square/slightly oblong.

try using it in the helmet holder or the seat key if it has one.

It looks to be the correct key based on the parts list.  Now we're back to frozen lock... ::)

They all had FS keys but there were many numbers so it could be the wrong key, you used to buy the switch and key barrel sperate so it shouldnt be a big problem

Thanks Bryan.  I actually got the lock unstuck.  Gave it one last attempt before despairing, and it freed up.  So many of our projects go that way.

I've put together a first-need parts list and will call for prices tomorrow.  Mostly small bits for the moment; but that can add up.

I'm still trying to figure out what the 'mystery hole' is, and what goes there, before I order some bits.  The hole is at the far end of where the starter motor lays, inboard of where the clutch cable enters the case.  I can't find it in any of the drawings I've got.  It has an upraised lip around it, as if some sort of cap fits there.
