Fairing Question
« on: December 02, 2010, 03:37:03 PM »
I'm thinking about getting a Rickman 1/2 fairing for my bike. My only concern being I like going on long trips and long rides and the buffering of the wind at 60+ MPH actually (in my mind) helps ease any strain on shoulders, back and wrists (I have clip-ons). I can go for long rides as she is now and feel perfectly fine at the end of a long day. My question being do you have a fairing like this and how do you like it on the highway?

Contact Bikerbart as he has a Rickman on his CB750K4.

I am interested in this question as well.

I have a half fairing on my Dunstall project and it doesn't really make that much difference in wind deflection.  The air just pours around the fairing and hits you at pretty much the same force as if it weren't there.  Even if I tuck in behind it all the way I still get wind hitting me.  The fairings that really keep the wind off you are the touring fairings like the Windjammers or the Batwing style.  Cafe fairings are more for looks than protection.

Just the information I was looking for. I was hoping there would still be some wind to keep weight off of my wrists.

Cool bike btw

I just have an EMGO 1/4 faring on my 500, and it does a good job of keeping the wind off of your torso at HWY speeds while letting air get around it to keep you cool when it hot. Below HWY speeds it doesn't make much difference. I've done a lot of HWY commuting with it, and  also on my un-fared 750, believe me there is a substantial difference. I'm sure a half fairing would make an even greater difference on the HWY.

My Rickman does a great job of Aerodynamics. It is huge so I can really take advantage of the protection.I live in the Pacific Northwest and it rains A LOT,my fairing helps immensely. My trip to laguna was easy as pie with my fairing. With the extra weight its worth it,averaged about 46 mpg.It also puts more weight on the front wheel which helps when I am all loaded up for touring.I stated in the past that I was thinking of cutting off some of the bottom to make it a 3/4,but that would be sacrilege.I decided not to.
its better to regret something you have done, than something you havent.Except playing with explosives.
