The pliers, cam chain tensioner pin, sleeve and end pieces can stay....everything else has to go.

I think the pliers at least need another layer of electrical tape around the handles...

follow the previous advice - junk it and replace the bad bits...

The tensioner parts certainly have that "I'm hard as a rock and about to fall into pieces" look to them.

So....this means that chains too?

I would like to propose a new STICKY thread.

Welcome to our forum if you are following:

10. Able to relearn how to use basic tools ( such as a screw driver ).
11. Willing to memorize a part by its 20 digit number.
12. Not getting drunk while working on your bike.
13. Accepting that dirty finger nails are a sign of manhood.
14. Getting an erection when you see a bike on street that will look like yours in future.

If you do not qualify with any one of the lists please do yourself a favor - STAY AWAY!

re-using the old, original tensioners isnt a good way to save money during a rebuild.

Oh, be reasonable! I only expect people to memorize the middle three digits which are the model identification

And with tensioner parts like that I'd strongly consider replacing the chains.

You might not need to though, there's a spec for measuring the primary chain slack but it requires the bottom end be assembled. You measure from the oil pan flange to the primary tensioner arm and replace the chain if the measurement is more than spec. Look it up in the workshop manual. I don't remember ever seeing a similar spec for the cam chain.

Any idea how many miles on the motor? The rubber parts will degrade simply from age. Yours are still intact so they were at least still performing their function.

you may as well replace all the rubber parts & chains & seals while your in there otherwise you might be in there sooner than you want to be

I see tons of cam chain stuffs for sale but I don't see primary chains and tensioner.
Where is good place for primary chain stuffs?

I ahve a question

I have brand new primary chains, cam chain and raelly good tensioners (not fitted yet) but a guy I am buying parts off has these items too all done 1200 miles and cheap. Should I buy them? (he has built up a high performance engine hence not using his rebuilt last year one which he is breaking, from which the mentioned parts come off)

O.K., so MRieck and Nobrake made a deal for parts and M sent them on the ' honor system' and never got paid ??...... and the cheeky git (nobrake) continues to post on the Forum.
Really bad form and deserves to be ignored...IMO.
