CB650 Head
« on: October 23, 2009, 05:22:39 PM »
Wanted to confirm what I read in a post I can't find anymore. So only the 79/80 head will match the 750 carbs? I picked up a 81 engine, but before I buy carbs I wanted to figure out what can fit. If I can't use 750 carbs am I limited to the stock 650's? Thanks in advance.

Yes the 79/80 will work. The 81/2 has a wider spacing.

I believe there are different manifolds to adapt 750 carbs to the later heads. IIRC, you have to also use the Ninja intake boots to make the carbs work. Don't quote me on it, though.

Wider spacing, or whatever where there's a [person with] a will there's a way.

This is a recently completed project a friend had to do. After adjusting and modifying, jetting, grinding needles and anything else he could do to his rz he realized that his mikuni conversion would be much easier without so dang many screws getting to the carbs, but still use the stock air box.

The solution was to make the velocity stacks slightly eccentric. I takes careful measuring, a cnc machining center and cam programs.
