Pain in the neck...
« on: August 21, 2009, 05:11:22 PM »
Dang what a medical fiasco. At first what was thought to be tendinitis in my elbow is looking to be a pinched nerve in my upper back/lower neck. I have numbness sensations from my upper back and is traveling down my right (throttle!!) arm. I had an EMG done this morning, not pleasant but not that bad at all, and so I'll have more information from my doctor next week. Hopefully it's not too serious. Anyone here ever have a pinched nerve and what was done to cure it? I just like to be prepared and informed from real world SOHC people. :)

I hope every thing turns out good for you. ;)

I have, what I think to be, tendonitis in both elbows. Sleeping is misery.

Wow... been there.

One doctor said an emg is the best thing ever... but mine was normal, so I wasn't having problems.

Next doctor said an emg is worthless... but he has so many other patients with worse problems, so I should feel grateful that I just have a minor inconvience.  (figure that the test depends on determining the exact length of nerve through which an electrical pulse travels.  Off by 1/4 inch=test way off)

Massage therapist said they're both idiots.

I've found that when it flares up, massage, hot packs help.  overall, good stretching and keeping the stress down keeps mine at bay.  Haven't had the pain in years, but still get a slightly numb pinky finger on the left hand when it flares.

Hope you get better medical care than I did.

I have been a practicing Doctor for 23 years now...I regret to inform you the only cure is chemical castration!!

Sorry, I got nothin'....but I do know when my wife's sciatica flares up which I assume is somewhat similar alternating heat and cold and lots of stretching tend to help her.

bed rest, alternate heat/ice in 20 minute increments. i have pretty severe nerve pain/damage in my neck. something like neurontin or elavil might be a good fix too.

Of all God's creatures there is only one that cannot be made the slave of the lash. That one is the cat. If man could be crossed with the cat it would improve man, but it would deteriorate the cat.

Hey, I've got the same issue with my left leg right now. If I bend the wrong way it's pins and needles from the top of my leg to  my toes.
Mine seems to  be getting better with time and avoiding over exertion.
Hang in there, just not with the right arm  ;)

Had one long ago, Chiropractor fixed it.  Took a couple months, but it worked well, and never came back.
