Got a beautiful K8 engine, what to use it for? Or...
« on: August 19, 2009, 08:16:13 AM »
I'm working on a customer's 750F3, which came with an extra, complete, K8 engine, oil tank, hoses, and carbs (PD type) in the deal! The K8 has a chunk taken out of the engine case in the points cover flange, but the piece is there and can be arced back on. The whole thing looks pristine, too.

The question: would someone here like to buy this engine package? The owner would like to see it well used, or just dropped into a bike, rather than dismembering it and parting it out. We're in Colorado, so shipping to anywhere might be a deal killer (around $200, it seems) for the whole kit, but someone local, maybe?

Drop me a PM, if you want to buy it, or some ideas, here?

I wish. never hurts to have a second engine around. Too bad I am broke right now! Hope it goes to good home and gets an 836 done to it!

What's the price on something like that?  I've got a couple ideas kicking around in my head, and a friend who owns a tube bender, so  nice new frame of some style isn't out of the question.

Where are you in Colorado?  I am traveling through from Sante Fe to Denver area on September 14 or so.......I would have room.  I'd offer $150 with no title.

I'll see if I can get some the next time he comes by. It's just the K8 engine in black, so they may not be great pictures!

Hi, Scrambler:
It's the K8 engine, doesn't need the title.  ???
I think the rest of the bike was somehow damaged, and the engine with oil tank, hoses, and carbs was taken as a unit from the damaged frame, now we have it in the deal.

Is it a black K, or an F ?

UPS on a small pallet strapped down is around 125 from Mich to Wa state, make sure no oil can leak out.

Wow, that's a deal, 754! Where were you when I was trying to get my K1 shipped here from Indiana!  :o  It cost me almost twice that, then. Does UPS have a special "group" to talk with? When I asked them here (at the "UPS Store, yet another clerk...), they said that the 200 pounds was more than they would take.  >:(

I'm considering making "crate" 750K1-K6 engines (with engine exchange), or offering a full rebuild service, if I can get a decent shipping arrangement. I think the $200+ I paid before would kill such an operation, but maybe at $125 it could make some sense.

I think 150 lbs is the limit for UPS.

It seems I remember something like that, too. The bare engine is 175.

150 may be right, I was getting a bottom end.

Ended up with part of the frame as well so it got bigger and cost more.

Dyno cover and rotor and kicker off may get it  close to 150...worth looking int.

I think they have an overweight class, for palleted freight, I would make a small pallet with a hole for the sump, then strap down motor with banding or reddirod pulling down on a 2x4 across the trans & clutch..

I'll get the serial number when the customer next comes by (it's in the back of his SUV right now). It's black, I know the S/N starts "CB750E-3..."
