« on: August 21, 2009, 06:55:23 PM »
ok well i want to take all 4 carbs off to clean them but i dont know how and the shop manual doesnt seem to be helping

i have the rear collars and the front colors loosened up and the back chamber will wiggle but now i don't know what to do

i looked at probably a dozen forums already but none have helped maybe because they were for different bikes

any help would be great

Do you have any ratcheting tie downs? If you do, use it to pull back the airbox. You might also be able to keep them pulled back with some rope.

Another way it to have someone pull back the airbox while you pull out the carbs. Wriggle them a bit when you pull out. Sometimes using the handle of a clawhammer (rubber not wood natch) like a fulcrum can help ease them out. If none of this works, heat up the boots with a hair dryer.

Oh yeah, you should also take the tightening bands off the airbox boots before you try to pull the carbs out. Very easy to mangle them trying to get the carbs out. (Ask me how I know.  ;))

I loosened all the bolts on the metal airbox as well, and pushed it back some, and then took the plastic piece right out.

That's what I do.  You have to pull up on it first to clear the stud under the battery though..

It takes strength to get them off!!! Twist, roll ,rock, side to side, push a little to the right to get some more of the left.!! Etc. Do be careful putting them on that way. You will easily knock it off the centerstand!  ::)  Ive only had mine off @ .....10 times in 2 years and not once this summer. So when you get them off search all you can here and save yourself the hassle.  BTW ive nver had a problem getting them off, but putting them on I use a space heater to warm the whole area up. Hope this helps.

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!
