Here's the deal. My Wife (Brenda) had been gathering "Spoons" from various places across the U.S. along with a few from other Countries. Her Dad (who died back in about 2003) had made her a rack to put her spoons on, as she collected them. My question is, if I privide a list of what she had already collected, could I impose of those of you who might be able to come up with a spoon from your areas, that she doesn't already have and let me pay for them and the shipping? I haven't done up the list yet, because she has quite a few, but I now she doesn't have any from Canada (to include any of the Provinces, Austrailia, New Zealand, Spain and some of the states as well. If there are a number of folks who wouldn't mind helping out with this venture that I've suggested, I'll be glad to make a list of what she Does have and go from there. If there's not much interest, then I'l just back off and let it go and it won't be a big deal.

Thanks for the time, Bill ;)

I can find SC and GA easy enough. Ebay might be your friend on this. Ill bet theyre $10-20 a spoon at the tourist shop.

Put up the list, Bill.  If I can help out, then I definitely will, and I'm sure there are plenty of other members here who would be happy to help, too. :)

Thank you ALL for your responses, I'll try to get the list together today and post it this evening. Gonna get my Dad to MY place today and spend some time showing him that old 250 Jawa that I have and put the engine (that I bought from Florida that Kirk, John  and his friend got , so Joh and I could meet at West Memphis and I could bring it home). Trying to get some kind of start on that bike, to give my Dad more of the feeling of having a purpose.

We just need the list of what you need.  ;)

Well, here is a list of what we have. I'd like to have ALL of the States AND ANY ohter location where ANY SOHC4 member lives, as I want to put ALL of the spoons that come from this, is one group to indicate that they ARE from the SOHC4 bunch. Just let me know what I owe for this, okay?

              We Have:

New York                                                                                           Tenn. (Memphis, Graceland)                                                   Missouri
            Texas State Aquarium                                                                           Louisianna                                                                           Georgia
New York (Buffalo)                                                                               Alabama                                                                              Texas  (Fort Worth)
Missouri (Branson)                                                                                Detroit, MI (Henry Ford Museum)                                             France (Paris)
            Mississippi                                                                                           Oklahoma                                                                            Grand Cayman Islands
            London                                                                                               California                                                                            Nevada (Las Vegas)
Louisianna (New Orleans)                                                                       Florida                                                                                New Mexico
            Wisconsin                                                                                           Colorado                                                                              North Dakota
            Hawaii

Okay, there it is, the list of what we have and I'll tell you, in MY opinion, I would like to have one from each state. But, if we got some from different cities (within any state) as well, you'd get no complaint from me. I want to say, Use your own judgment, but if there is indecision, feel free to check with me. Chances are, if it's not to big of a deal, I'd go for it.  This IS such a cool thing and I am getting anxious to see just what we end up with. Bear in mind to let me know what I owe for the spoons plus shipping.

Thank you SO much, Bill ;)

My mom collects these and I would always pick one up in my travels.  I remember never paying more than $5 or $6 but it has been awhile since I have bought one.  I will look for a Minnesota one for you.  Now I just have to find a tourist shop.  It's amazing how as a native I haven't a clue as to where one is. :D

WOOHOO I got Utah covered!!!!  ;D   Can you post pics of the spoons she already has? I know they make different varieties, so it might be cool to try and match them.

Brandon

Well, I would , if I could. But I just am not set upo to do photos just yet. And her collection of spoons, are a wide variety, with no set pattern or style. BTW, thanks for taking care of Utah, that is really appreciated.  8) ;)

Just got a  VERY pleasant surprise in the mail today. :o My buddy DAVE (upperlake)
had sent me some spoons from Canada, for Brenda's Collection. I have already put them in place on the spoon rack that her Dad had made just for her spoons. I wish the both of them could be here to see these spoons. But, I'm sure they already know all about them. :) Anyway, I just wanted to let you all know about them.

                                       Take care all, Bill ;)

Hey Bill, I am just seeing this now...what ones did Dave send over? I can likely get my hands on some up here as well but don't want to duplicate them. I assume you just want one per Province right?

Yeah Dennis, I suppose one for each Province. I'll have to get those out that Dave sent and let you know what they were.

BTW, anyone who is doing this, if you'll send me a PM, I'll send you my address. Don't really want to post it right out here in the open, you know?

Thank you, I'll get those posted ASAP.  ;)

I'll have to talk to my mom too Billy and see if she still has any of her old ones...she went thru a bit of a phase when I was a kid and she bought a bunch but then seemed to lose interest. I will ask her this weekend if she still has them....she had a habit of donating stuff to her family church's various sales though so they may have ended up there.

For me it is shot glasses that I collect so I get where Brenda was coming from...

If they make a Connecticut spoon I'd try to find one. I don't live in a "tourist" area so I'm not real sure where to look but I'll give it a go. Gift shop most likely and I don't think there are any gift shops in a dried up old mill town like Torrington but hey, I could be wrong.

Sorry to take so long to get back to you on what ones Dave sent me, Dennis.
Been kinda preoccupied for a bit and when I'm NOT preoccupied, I tend to relax and not do much. ::)

Ontario,  Alberta, Canada (down the stem of the spoon), Manitoba,  & Saskatewan
are the ones that Dave sent me already. Cool, huh? ;)

Hi Bill, watch your mail. Goodies from should be arriving shortly! ;)

I want to thank you so much. It's really gonna be so AWESOME to see that spoon rack fill up with those spoons and I might have to make an attempt at making a copy of that spoon rack that Brenda got from her Dad. Since She's "UP THERE" with him, I'd have to "WING IT". ::) ;) Maybe I can do up a "close" copy of it.  ???

Hi Bill, watch your mail. Goodies from Holland should be arriving shortly! ;)

Hey Ingrid, i got that spoon today and it is really a cool one too! I'm kinda embarrassed to admit that I realized that you were from the Netherlands and yet, it didn't dawn on me that you said it was from Holland.  :-[ ::) You see, I don't remember if I mentioned it, but my ancestry (which i don't know much about), is Holland Dutch and what I'm told is, "Black Dutch". Not sure why they are called black Dutch because I HAVE been told that they aren't actually black. Before I get side tracked and forget, I DO want to Thank You for the spoon, it has already gotten a place on the rack (where it will surely be seen)! 8) ;)  If there is anything you might know about the "Black Dutch" thing, I'd sure like to know. If I get the chance, I'll see just what I can find though. Brenda was mainly German and I am of Holland Dutch and Black Dutch, with a bit of Cherokee Indian (not enough to keep me from growing a beard though) and I don't know if there is anything else or not. ::)

                                         Thanks again, Bill ;)

Hi Bill, Glad it arrived safely!!
Great to send you one of your first international ones and then it to be related to your own ancestry is so cool. The coincidence... I had no idea!
Your Black Dutch reference doesn't ring a bell to me, but curiosity got the better of me so this is the wiki link Google turned up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Dutch
According to this link the term Black Dutch is used for multiple reasons including a Dutch reference and a Native American reference.
At least your Dutch inheritance should give you a down to earth, hands-on disposition  :P ;D
Grtz,
Ingrid

And I thank YOU for that as well, Ingrid. :)  The "Black Dutch" reference was what I was told and there's no one to ask now, except my Dad and 'm not sure he even remembers the term being used or not. Well, I DO know that I have often been that I am a "Hard Headed Dutchman", just like my Granddad and my Dad! ::) :D That's the main reference I've heard about being Dutch. It's kinda funny that my Wife used to say that I was "hard Headed" like a Dutchman and yet, she was mostly German and could be JUST AS HARD HEADED herself. :D ;) Pretty good challenge, when we would get into a disagreement too!   ::)

                                       Take care Ingrid, Bill ;)
