Clubmans: What an Effin' mess.
« on: August 25, 2009, 04:08:18 PM »
My 73 CB500 had these ridiculous mini ape/high rise bars on it when I bought it.  When I went to clubmans I bought some stock size throttle cables,  which I expected to be shorter.  They weren't.  I still have a ton of cables everywhere.  Does anyone have any recommendations of cables for clubmans?  Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Although the brake lines link was helpful,  I'm looking for a clutch cable and throttle cables.  At the motorbike store the parts retard offered me some cables that were literally half the size of the stock cables... from some dirtbike.  These seemed entirely too short.  Does no one have some cables that actually fit their clubmans or does everyone just let 'em dangle?

You can cut them, it doesn't seem like a hard process. Search the site for people who have.

I bought clubman bars and didn't need to change my cables, I just rerouted them differently. They start on the right side of the frame and loop to the left, under the headlight ears, and then from the left side of the headlight they meet up at the right-hand controls. The clutch cable is the same process.

(Though you probably shouldn't go by what I said, because the throttle still kind of sticks. I gotta fiddle with them some more.)

A decent Motorcycle repair place should be able to trim then swag a new barrel on the cables.

Then a dip in the lead pot for a new end.

Notice I said "Decent"

It's alright, you'll probably want some shorter brake hoses if you go to clubmans anyway.  They tend to bend a bit unnaturally when they get a bit shorter, especially the one from the junction box, that is if you still have it.
About the throttle cables, I just used my stockers and rerouted them, though I ended up getting a shorter tach cable as the bind it was in was causing it to jump around a bit.

Yes you can Dave.  Got my tach cable from them.

Ok FastBro clue me in ... why would you need a shorter tach cable?

Did you change the positon of the tach? Drop it lower?

Post a pic as I am thinking of doing the same.

I never measured mine, but I'm guessing it was replaced at some point with one from another bike.  So the extra length didn't allow it a straight shot into the housing at the top of the rocker cover, and methinks this wasn't allowing my cable to seat fully.  So my tach needle would jump around a bit.
Sorry shouldn't have mentioned it as it didn't really relate to the clubman thing.
