CB750 K3 Carb Linkage
« on: August 25, 2009, 07:33:05 PM »
1973 CB750K3, Question regarding carb linkage:

Can anyone tell me what the purpose of the pin that floats in the slot of the arm that is connected to the "pull" cable?  (I think they are both "pull" cables on a push-pull system, but I'm referring to the cable that is vertically higher of the two).  I am trying to adjust the cables to the suggested spec but am trying to figure out the purpose of this pin the lever arm.

Additionally, what is the point of the having "cross-over", or being able to roll the throttle to close the carbs further than their idle position?

Thanks.

When you push the upper arm of the butterfly arm forward ("past" closed) the arm pivots on it's collar, resisted by the large hairspring on the shaft next to it.  The pin limits the overall travel of this action.

It's better than having "cross-under", or being unable to roll the throttle to close the carbs completely.  Once the carbs bottom out any remaining motion is absorbed by the pivoting of the butterfly arm on it's collar (see above).
