This place apparently sells Zero Mile 100% Restored CB750 Sandcasts using all Sandcast Honda parts.

Sounds pretty sweet.  A NEW Sandcast 750 (which is the 750 I want when I get a 750).

However, my heart stopped at the price: $21,500. :o :o :o  Is that what a CB750 would go for if sold new in today's dollars?

Is that worth it?  I really don't think so, not for a "rider".  For a Concours bike, maybe.  But, why buy one if you're not gonna ride it?

I think when I look for my 750, I'll try to find a nice K0 with proper K0 features, regardless of Sandcast or not.

Thoughts?

Vic World's bike are concours quality. I'd want to ride one just to see what it was like before Honda de-tuned it and let it go...

I love my 1978 CB750K8.
I am sure I would love any year CB.
Hell I have loved a lot of bikes in my day.
I have never ridden a bike that is worth $21500.00.

Seems to me I took the cost of a CB750 in 1970 and allowed for inflation and the cost came to something like $7-8,000.

Some people are afraid to ride a real expensive bike. Some people thought a bike of mine was worth that much, or more.  Well, I ride the beans out of it and I didn't think it was worth that much before, but I KNOW it's not now.  The only difference between yours and a concours resto is the shine. If you're starting a museum, it might be worth it.

This is why I want a K0, as early as possible preferably, but I'm not hung up on "Sandcast Only".  As long as it is a first-year bike with all the first-year features and details, that's what I want.

This one....the one I ride almost daily and have since 1970 missed being
a sandcast by about 600 serial numbers.... ;D

You can't simply judge the bike price for its performance. Have into account that they are made from completely NOS parts (at least the parts that can be seen), assembled in USA with the highest attention to detail. How long have you been looking for a sidecover on eBay? Imagine how much time must this guy spend hunting for parts. For example, he will only install original Stanley blinker lenses, or the infamous white speedometer drive rubber -while Honda have it available in black-. I guess that the people who buy those bikes a) Have enough disposable income so not to worry about a scratch or b) Have enough disposable income and worry about what happens to the bike, but have an enough big house to have it on display.

I came -I recall from this forum- to a webpage where there were pictures of the Honda Museum in Japan. The CB750 had a note saying -restored by Vic World-. Can you imagine that Honda have a showroom Sandcast thanks to that guy?

A friend of mine is selling one of his bikes - offers in the region of £150K - it's an MV Works bike! He gets to ride in the Barry Sheen Memorial Trophy at Goodwood each year because of it.

Not quite in that league Mark, but Atlantic Motorcycles in Twyford (Berkshire) always have an interesting selection of old race bikes in stock:

I know a few paople that have had their bikes listed by Atlantic. They don't actually own many of the bikes they show on the site, or in their ads. They just advertise at huge prices, with some 'interesting' descriptions sometimes. The Guzzi V8 they show and CR750 are two good examples of bikes they have been advertising for years now.

Iv'e found that with several of the bike dealers(and car dealers), whenever I call they have just sold the bike in question. The Atlantic guys do have some lovely looking kit though. I thought the 1969 T150 Bonny was not a bad price, 3950 pounds?
 I have always wanted the CB750 and the Bonny.

Mark - I didn't realise that Atlantic operate in that way. It's about 5 miles down the road and although I keep an eye on their website, I've never been there!  I started watching 5 years ago when I was looking for the 500/4

Steve, Go and ask them about the MV SS they are selling - they say it's "new" - which means it's not made by MV - it's made in Birmingham by Dave + Mark Kay. Which is quite important to "declare" you would have thaught.
