Yellow paint on bolts from factory

Anyone know the reason Honda put yellow paint on bolts?  I was told it was for warranty purposes to tell if the were removed or monkyed with that would void a warranty.  Does anyone or the old timers know if this was the reason or was it something else??

I think it indicates an inspection point.  Verifying that the bolt was checked and such.

That is called a witness mark. It serves two purposes. First is signifies that the bolt was torqued. Second it will allow you to see if the bolt has turned due to vibration.

Plus it also lets the dealer know what you had been fiddling with !
I use paint spots as an easy way to let myself know that I have torqued something down as my memory is not perfect.

If your memory is not perfect, are you positive you paint every single bolt after torqueing it down?

My method is different: if I put a bolt or nut in, I always torque it down correctly -in case of a cover, I torque them down alternatively, but all of them at the same time. That way I always know that every bolt that is in, it has been torqued.
Only use torque wrench on head bolts/nuts and filter bolt. The rest are torqued by "feel".

In an industrial setting the technique is to torque a bolt and mark it with a paint pen. This allows the quality inspectors to do a quick inspection.

The yellow paint is to signify that a critical area related bolt or nut has been torqued. Its a  quality control tool. Typically you see it at swingarm, steering head, axle, and brake points.
