Yeah, I'm sure any other bike in that price range would fit you perfectly and never have any problems ever.

But honestly...how many bikes are even in that price range? It is NOT asking too much to desire an $18,000 motorcycle be comfortable. Anyone that says otherwise has some serious brand loyalty blindness issues.

I just really didn't see anything in your gripe that couldn't be said about any other motorcycle ever made. I personally think it would be impossible to make a bike that everybody thought was perfectly comfortable so I don't really see that as being a negative about HD it's just your personal experience based on what you like and don't.

As far as someone said about Harley going headlong into the 80's you can be sure this new XR will out perform the '77 XLCR variant, which its shovelhead motor was/is an inferior motor to the current evo.
I'd guess this XR will clean up on most SOHC's too (ducking for cover).
In the realm of Harley making modern antiques, their bikes have improved from the AMF era.
Along with their balanced motor they have kept the look and reduced the shake.

I am not necessarily a HD fan, but their improvements since their bailout are obvious, with marketing especially.

I agree.
It's unfortunate that some horrible corporate management that happened 30 years ago is still following them around. Most people aren't aware that the AMF HD's are the only ones that were unreliable.

i remember reading about test drives of ferraris in the 80's. quality control blew, and the a/c didn't. but people payed for the privilege of ownership. that poor quality and crude nature would never fly today in an economy car. if the average quality of current hd is bad, or spotty, that's a problem in my book. especially for the dough they want.

for 18k one should not have to pay extra for another foot control. having said that a size 13, i believe, is still in freak/bigfoot territory.

I was going to ask why you needed $20k but then I noticed you lumped the 550 into that request too. Way to shoot high


I don't think their current quality control has issues beyond any other manufacture but the AMF era certainly did.

But my 32 year old $185 Japanese bike doesn't do that after 3 hours.

you know if you want to get an xr1200 for cheaper, buy a used sportster 1200 and get this kit and do a conversion!!  i bet it'll handle better and look more unique than a stock one, even though it does need a chain tensioner...

it does not look like an XLCR at all... just looks like the new 1200 with the CR body parts ( Fairing, tank, seat) placed on it, not too nicely at that..
