Topic: Searching for Engine paint code or match

I know I've seen a post about engine paint code or a matching paint, but I can't find it. Anyone know what to use to get that satin aluminum/silver colour? Also can I polish the rocker cover ( is that hard?) or should that be painted as well.  I've seen so many beautiful engines on this site. I want one too!

But I'm sure you can get the same stuff cheaper else where & its probably the exact same stuff.

To get the engines covers looking chrome like all you need to is wet sand, it's easy just VERY time consuming and a little bit more up keep. But looks really good. Start with  coarser grits then go up to the finest grit you can fine, use come really good metal polish. Polish in between grits and one final polish at the end and it will good great! Your also need to polish it ever so often to keep it looking good.

Duplicolor engine enamel 1615 is said to be a very close match.  I used 1650 on my cases, you can see how it looks here  http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=55860.0  Do a search on engine paint and polish and you will get a bunch of threads.

Hey guys, I was wondering, instead of polishing the rocker cover - what should I do to get that factory look. Is it painted and then just cleared? or polished & cleared? The guy at VintageHondaPaint.com has the right paint. but haven't found info on the covers for factory look.

The UK Sandcast Guru C****R says he uses “Five Wheel Silver” type paint (Simoniz, I seem to recall). Funnily enough that's what I used when restoring my 400/4 22 years ago. I notice it is also suggested by Classic Bike in their current issue page 31 (Rick Partington's 'Rick's Fixes'). This is probably a UK only product. If you appreciate C****R's attention to minute detail (Even the 'SancastOnly' guru Steve Swan refers US people to him on some issues) I reckon he will have researched this pretty well but I guess the petrol resistance is not brilliant. Any other UK guys used this stuff? On my 400-4 I seem to remember treating the cases first with aircraft alloy etch primer (don't ask me where I got it from - all I can say is I live near a BAE site!)
