Bonneville guys, explain the classes to me
« on: August 30, 2009, 08:51:01 PM »
I'm hoping to run Bonneville in 2011, and will go out in 2010. Its something I've wanted to do since 2006 when I picked up my Chevy, and really before.

I'd be building for a class, and need to get the SCTA book (wanting to do speed week, not BUB). Does anyone have a sheet with an explanation of the classes? Theres so many and I can't decipher them all.

There's millions of classes, I know most of the bike prefixes but not the cars.
Best to go on this sites forum   http://www.landracing.com/forum/index.php ask in this section for car info.  http://www.landracing.com/forum/index.php/board,7.0.html

Thats what I was trying to clairify, I'm interested in running a bike. Probably in 650cc. Do you know how to decipher the prefixes?

Due to there being so many, it would be easier if you told me all about the bike and it's specs.

So far I just know I want to run gas, nonstreamlined, naturally aspirated, non-stock wheels, production 550 frame with either a 650 motor or 550 with 650 guts in it.

I'd like to go 120, thats the number I got fixated on when I started thinking of running a bike. I don't know much about running bikes out there, spent the last couple years thinking I'd want to run a big block chevy in my panel truck (which I already built, but I built that motor for the street). Realized I can't afford to do that and would be pretty bummed if I destroyed a hot rod that has been in my family since '62!

I think by changing the wheels and fitting the 650 motor in a 550 frame you would be in M (modified) and running gas you would be in G (gas). That would put you in M-G.
That record stands to Susan Robinson in your list at 157.556mph.
I am not 100% certain, just a guess, like I said, try the Landracing.com forum.
It is addictive once you start ;D ;D ;D ;D Good luck.

SCTA rules are diferent from FIM and AMA which are the official world and American national records.
I think that under SCTA sanction, you can't ride a super or turbo charged bike in the N/A class but you can the other way round. The same aplies with capacity, you can't run a 650 in the 175 class but you can run a 175 in the 650 class.
This guy running in M-PBG is entering a 175cc Harley two stroke in lots of classes where no record was in place. He is probably a bull $hitter that likes to go to the pub and brag that he is a world land speed record holder. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

what are the officials out there like? the sanctioned events i've been to gave me the impression the organizers were kind of snobby. the worlds fastest indian made the SCTA guys look like pricks.

it confuses me to no end, I cant even figure out what the fastest times for bikes I like are. anyone know the fastest speed for a 1978 CB750K and or an F too. and what year it was done.??? I bet the dudes out there are pretty snobbish. who would mess with an old man trying to go super fast on an old bike and from the other side of earth? a real prick.

It was a film, no one in their right mind would travel half way round the world to compete in an event without completing an entry form.
