Fuel/Air screws on sides of carbs
« on: September 01, 2009, 03:17:31 PM »
So from what I read they are supposed to be out 1/2 turn, in for leaner out for richer?

Well at least one of mine was out 1 and a half turns at least...

how many turns are they supposed to be out?

I just got done putting new plugs in and it was a night and day difference, the bike was so much faster, but they turned black really fast ALL BESIDES ONE which was a light tan color, and the pipe was hot just like the others.....weird? it was the #2 plug.

I thought they were supposed to be 1 to 1.5 turns out...
Do believe it's IN for richer and OUT for leaner.

Remember, this affects pretty much only up to 1/4 throttle for mixture.

Again, they SHOULD turn black if you are running at low engine speed without much throttle.
That doesn't start to cook off 'til you are opening up the carbs a bit more for use of the main circuit.

they were at 1.5 turns out. I changed them to 7/8 out and now the bike barely idles and smokes white like there is no tomorrow.

Which bike/year?

The early 750 screws were fuel screws, the last two years were air screws (or the other way around?).

You'll want to know what you've got for future fiddling.

He's got a 350f.
It's in-rich, out-lean.
You've changed the idle AF mixture. And, they weren't all the same, so you'll need to reset idle and redo your carb synch.

Thanks, Mark.  Like a fool, I didn't look at the bottom signature.  :-[
