New project/part out; '79 KZ1000 drag bike craigslist score
« on: September 01, 2009, 11:52:04 AM »
Picked up a bit of a basket case 1979 KZ1000ltd and a bunch of parts yesterday. The guy I got it from knew nothing about it and took it in on trade. It has a set of Mikuni Smoothbores on it, two sets of stock carbs, extra tank and bodywork, a really nice vance and hines 4-1 exhaust, lockhart oil cooler, and I'm pretty sure the engine has had work done internally, the valve cover is chromed, and there are plugs on the sides that say "Manley" I couldn't find too much info on them, but I know they made oversize valves. Probably going to part it out, and might keep the smoothbores for a future cb750 project. Got it all for $350

Seems a shame to part it out...or are they not worth much in decent running shape? Not familiar with the LTD version...

What do you want for the whole thing zoo?

I'm serious. (as in considering it if the gf doesn't kill me first) ;)

Maybe the bike is more important?  :D

I need to stop posting what I pay for these things, don't really know what I'd like for it. I did find out that the motor is from a 78 KZ1000A and will require some wiring work to work properly. The lights etc. work, but no neutral light, starter etc. Here's a thread I started at Kzrider, not too impressed by their help thus far. Let me know if you're still interested in a PM.
