my other hobby................
« on: September 02, 2009, 12:42:10 AM »
in addition to motorcycles and musical instruments i also build and collect model cars. anyone else here mess with plastic model kits of any kind? this is a 1966 396 elcamino i finished this evening/morning. along with it are the 3 camaros i've done over the past year. also, does anyone here have model kits theyve purchased but havent built and might you like to sell them to me? building model kits is one of th things i do to keep my sanity when i hurt too much to move around much. theyre at the point where at the stores or even online from someone like Tower hobbies, theyre just getting to be way too pricey for me at retail prices. i can pay a littlew cash or i might have parts or tools to trade.

That don't look like a model, Hav150.

My hobby is woodworking.  Here are some pictures of my latest project. It is made entirely of 1/4" Okkume Mahogany marine plywood.  The handle is 5 layers laminated.  There are no metal fasteners, just glue.

Hah, with my motorcycle hobby, I can't AFFORD any other hobbies :D  I've tried a lot of different things over the years. I like reloading for my handguns, but sold that off to fund my current motorcycle obsession. It's just getting too hard to find places to go shooting, and ranges are only so much fun. With a motorcycle I can enjoy it every day, and there aren't any politically motivated groups trying to take it away. *stepping off soapbox*

Nice models guys, and the real car, super nice.

333 I grew up around woodworking, I'm not really that good, though the older I get the better I seem to be able to bluff my way through it ;) That is a great looking piece.

This is a neat thread.

i'm psyched, the ferarri daytona is my #1 foriegn dream car. the 57 chevy 150 sedan came with a 283 with either a carb or the 283 hp fuel injected motor. it's going to look wild with the dual carbed hemi under that hood. i think i have a front axle from an old, flat faced econoline, with the leaf springs that will go on it in place of the stock ifs. can you say A/fx drag car? i love building models. next time i go to a store to buy one though, it's going to be the largest scale B-52 i can find. i took out all the kits i've done over the past 2 years (since i broke my neck) and put them all out on the mantle tonight.

after unpacking and dusting some others off.........................

theyre a great way to keep the mind busy and eye-hand co-ordination up to snuff when i have problems moving around. i built my first model kit, my first glue one (not snap tite) when i was 7 or 8, we're talking the mid 70's here. it was a model of Shirley Muldowneys funny car. i'd LOVE to have a few of those old funny car kits like they used to make in the 70's. maybe built a tractor/trailer in the same scale. maybe a couple tractor trailers for a few different kinds of race cars? as soon as i can get some parts and tools sold i will i believe. you might have guessed by now i like anything that looks good and runs fast but i'm still a ford nut most of all  ;D

the Tamiya model kits are top notch, really nicely molded and detailed. not cheap but theyre worth it. i lust for their cr750 kit they used to make

my dad has a nice running 283 in his 59 or 60 impala (he said, really, it could be either) great sounding motor, pulls strong. That car is absolutely gigantic, but I love driving it. No power lost to power brakes, power steering, air conditioning. Just a good ride with bench seats big enough to go through all of the phases of procreation, including the one that requires a full medical team.

They have some nice bike kits here http://www.tamiya.com/english/products/masterwork/masterwork_bike001.htm still no 750 tho.

This CB1100R is a nice one also http://www.tamiya.com/english/products/16033cb1100b/index.htm

Also if you are into OCC American choppers, http://www.ehobbies.com/diecast-motorcycles.html is a good place for Diecast ones.

Here is a Daytona Replica 1:6th scale of a CR750 http://www.rebikeling.ch/restaurationen/cr750-16.html its not English so.. not sure what the site is all about.

Here is a CB750 four motor kit looks like 1/3 scale .. http://www.ehobbies.com/mmi11202.html

Here is a CB750, I may have to get this one 1/12th scale http://www.modelhobbies.co.uk/shop/tamiya-honda-cb750f-14006-p-6220.html DOHC tho.. still. for £ 9.89 that's about 16.24 us dollars its not a bad price..

This one http://www.emodels.co.uk/plastic-kits/tamiya-honda-cb750f-16020-p-10110.html?osCsid=100c49974489595e21c63a3436ad846e is  £62.99 or 103.39 us dollars, not sure why its soo much more, but it is 1/16 scale.

They have lots of Honda's here http://www.modelhobbies.co.uk/shop/all_prodcats.php then just do a page search (Ctrl + F) and look for Honda..

Ok, I will stop now unless I find a SOHC Honda model.

From what I can tell the guy in the site, built a real bike from the model. I did find this tho http://www.etamiya.com/shop/tamiya-16001-tamiya-16-honda-cb750-four-p-5967.html  however at 119.00 usd its going to be a while before I get one.

Ok found it. at 78.00 its cheaper then the one above.. go figure .. http://www.etamiya.com/shop/tamiya-16003-tamiya-16-honda-cb750-racing-p-5968.html

Or you can buy it semi assembled for $409.00 Wow talk about sticker shock!! http://www.etamiya.com/shop/tamiya-23210-tamiya-16-honda-cb750-racing-
semiassembled-premium-model-p-80003579.html

Who knew there was a police edition.. http://www.etamiya.com/shop/tamiya-16004-tamiya-16-honda-cb750-police-p-5969.html $98.00
