Hiya all! My name's Marcus, and I have 3 Honda bikes: a 1978 CB400T Hawk, and 2 1980 CB650C's (one of which belongs to the wife). I don't have any pics of the,m besides some crappy ones I took with my phone, but I'll post some real ones soon. The 78 Hawk is, of course, a twin, and is a mild cafe build. It was purchased this way, and I haven't done anything to it. The 650's though, are something else. The wife's is a complete bike, purchased roughly 4 months ago to the tune of $800 with about 17K on the odo. Seems to run well enough, but not *quite* right. She's happy enough with it, even though it seems to be misfiring on one cylinder until it warms up, and it smokes quite a bit (previous owner didn't really take care of it well). I got a complete second motor with the bike when I bought it, but I'm not sure what kind of condition it's in. Looking to do a swap over winter to find out. Regardless, the one in there is sort of due for a rebuild, the chain needs replacing, the carbs need freshened and tuned, and ALL the rubber insulators need to be replaced. How am I doing so far?
The second 650 is a very recent acquisition for $300. The motor in this one appears to be different than the other two motors I have, at least in the head and carburetor departments. The insulators are definitely smaller on the other two motors, and carbs are spaced wider. I wasn't aware there was more than one model of motor during this one year. Does that sound right to anyone, or maybe there's a motor from a different year bike in there? Anyway, this one suffers from much the same problems as the first, though it's not in rideable condition. It was someone's cruiser/cafe build that was never finished. I have all the parts, and I can get the motor to run reasonably smoothly, but not for long. Once again, the carbs need freshening and the rubber insulators ALL need replaced. Other than that, I'm sort of at a loss. I'm so glad I found this place. Maybe I can get something figured out over winter! Thanks so much for being here!
Marcus
