Opps! Dropped it at speed.
« on: September 03, 2009, 08:21:55 PM »
aNYONE here besides me drop their bike while driving?
I was going fairly slow (for me) 35mph in the big city
and hit a pothole, lost my balance, opened the throttle
and the bike went up, I went off the back, holding the handgrip!.
Both of us are ok, just a few scratches.
Whew, pretty wierd.
peace,
michel

You should see some of the pot holes around here.. You could fill them with water and call them ponds.. So far tho I have managed to avoid them. Mostly I go off the road on to the shoulder or into the other lane.

Glad you are both ok.. Hope that does not shake you up too much.

Glad you're OK! That's a pretty high rate of speed to come off without injury, what were you wearing?

I was wearing a helmet, boots, jeans, gloves and a mc jacket.
Only wore out one glove actually, and my butt hurts. :-\

Yes several times, once while trying to catch a friend going in opposite direction, ground my right elbow into the ground like a corkscrew, still hurts after 50 years, next whilst finding out that speed bumps made intoxicated young blonds horny, hit RR ties parked on side of road and did a super endo, said sweety went into bush farther than I did, I cut down the saplings with my head so she got more distance than I, she wound up with a scratch on her thigh, I looked like I'd had been in a fight, next was me playing joe moto cross on a Honda S90 hitting a series of whoop-de-do's and having my hand come off of the twist grip, another endo and some where in the arc saying this is going to hurt, Thump, oh #$%* I'm going again I wonder if I'm going to live, Thump, the aftermath of that one was discovering that my right arm wouldn't work and having to use my left arm to stick my right arm in my pocket so that I could function, had to call a kid on a mini bike to help me get the bike up, so I could push it back to the apartment, broke my collar bone etc. There are more, but I've got to go out and do some more siding.

Been down many rimes but only on the track.  The thing that sticks with me is the need to be properly dressed.  I see young guys around here with shorts on and the girl friend up behind in body shirt and shorts.  It's crazy.
Seven races this year and low-sided twice.  I started the year with one bad shoulder and now I have two.  Whoop-de-doo.

only once on the street. (been down countless times in the dirt)  Rain + sand = me and my CB400a skidding across the pavement in unison. I only got a scuff or two on my leathers. The woman who would become my wife and her family horrified in the car behindhind me was much worse than the crash itself. It was neat watching the sparks while we slid, though. Only one exhaust bolt was damaged, though, which I find odd. I was going about 30 mph.

Well Dan I think the funniest was when I was shop manager for a Yamaha dealership and they asked me if I wanted a snowmobile for the winter ( they are the devil's toy) and I said no, but how about a bike they said are you sure? Ok so I wind up with a DT 175, anyhow, snow hits and I'm driving back and forth to work on bike with motocross boots, snowmobile suit, two pair of gloves, woolly socks, and scarf no problems if it's really bad out, like icey, sleet that type of thing I just drop both feet and away we go, the one time that we got a major dump and when I got stuck I climbed off stuck it in 1st or 2cd and walked along side and away we go, anyhow as you can see I was comfortable with slippery conditions, so one day after work I turned onto the street where our apt was and thought Jeez just like glass I wonder if I can do a power slide ( watched some AMA dirt track the day before and one off the guys was good enough to do it with feet up) so I wind the throttle on and it starts to come around, oops just a little bit too far, so I'm going down the street backwards and say ok more gas and go all the way around or cut back and bring it out that way, oh what the hell, cut back and see if you can do it on the other side, so I cut back and I wasn't sensitive enough and cut it back too much, #$%* there go's the bike. So I'm down on my back watching the bike slide away an me pivoting along with it so I start laughing at myself, just howling with laughter as I'm swinging around I catch sight of a kid at the front of his apartment building door, the look on his face was priceless so I howl more, finally the thought occurs to me that I'm on my back in the middle of the road I better do some thing about it, I get up right, pick up the bike, check it, start it up again and drive home. The only thing that I did to the bike was break a rear signal light lens on it, as far as me I wasn't even stiff the next day. The kid I'm not sure about every time I saw him and waved after that he'd run into the apt building.

you and the other old Canadian need to get wheel chairs, you'd probably figure out a way to dump those.

I've hit the sausage creature twice. Once when a car ran a light and t-bone me. The cars bumper caught the engine case on the 750 and popped me off the bike like a cork. I landed in the street on my feet. It was a really unbelievable dismount. I Gymnast in those college days and I'm sure that would have been scored a 10. I had on only a helmet, jeans and a t-shirt.

The second was the deer incident a year ago. At 70mph hit the deer coming out of a curve, no time to touch the brakes just wam, then the thought I may keep it up until the back tire bite and then the high side. I probably should have called in for flight clearance but the radio was out. Down on the pavement I don't remember much about the landing, just my buddy flipping my face shield up. Broke my leg, seperated some ribs, worked over the ankle but didn't spill a drop of blood.
I had on full gear.

RM only if the chairs weighed about 250-300 lbs and put 50 hp to the ground. As an after thought either with discs or 8 leading shoe brakes and a steering damper. All alloy and magnesium.
Bill the demon.
Ps I have driven a bike since 1958.

I've been lucky so far, but I almost dropped my Ruckus once when I hit some gravel on a turn.  And that was just a 50cc scooter....

I hear of lots of fatalities from deer incidents. Cars and motorcycles. Here in our county of 13,000 a deer is hit
every 24 hrs. The word "overpopulation" does not cover the problem. Personally I think since the State regulates
the ability to thin the herd that the State should provide restitution when "their" deer cause fatalities and accidents.
