What order would you suggest?
« on: September 07, 2009, 05:56:56 PM »
I am looking to take apart my 550, clean replace what is needed, paint engine, and then reassemble. Since this is my first bike I was wondering if someone could give me some insight on where to begin. A nice ordered list would be nice, and then I would just follow the reverse order to put back together. Thanks folks, I am truly addicted.

What ever order you choose.

If you are doing the whole bike, start with wheels.

If engine only.... start with whatever is needed to remove it from the frame.

Take pictures, write it down. Have fun.

The start point is not the big issue, as you are dismantling the bike take lots of Photos of cable runs, pipe runs, electrical wiring runs, have lots of Ziploc bags handly for bagging off componants. Have lots of shelving handy for putting the parts on.
I would leave the engine, wheels, forks and swingarm and main stand until last when taking a bike apart.

Will you need to move it around occasionally? if so keep the wheels till last, haul out the motor you can start with that as you are bound to run into a waiting period when you can attack the frame/wheels etc.
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!
