Jet Needle on a CB500
« on: September 05, 2009, 11:48:07 AM »
Hello,

I am rebuilding the carbs on a 71 CB500 using a Keyster kit. I dont know how the bike ran before as it has sat for some years.

What should I set the jet needle to? I have 5 positions on the needle, currently they are all set to second from bottom (this would be lean??).

Should I set them in the middle or mimic what was done previously?

Are there any other settings I should try and copy from original or ??

Much thanks in advance,

Ben

2nd clip position from the bottom is stock from what I've read.  Also, setting the clip lower will raise the needle allowing more fuel to pass, thus more rich.  A little advice... If you do all this work cleaning your carbs and dont clean the tank, you're just asking to go back in and do it all over again.  Don't ask me how I know.  Good luck with the build, looking forward to seeing your progress.
