Goldwing swap...bearing q
« on: September 06, 2009, 11:15:13 AM »
In the process of doing the swap, and although the original ball bearings felt good, i think i might as well do the tapered deal....i was reading in the faq and it mentions a washer that he installed, but the it was too high...so do i just get the bearing kit for my bike and install it...

I have a 73 750, and used a 75 'Wing front. I stuck the spacer under the bottom bearing and stretched the seal down over it. The seal won't fit like it originally did, but IMHO it's better than nothing.

The spacer is about .020 too thick, but in the grand scheme of things it won't matter.
No matter how fast or how far I rode, I couldn't leave her memory behind.

streched the seal?...thought they were bonded to that washer...why is there the need to space it in the first place (does the tapered bearing change how it sits in the steering head)...

do these bearings have a timken equivalent, i don't wanna wait for mail order and i get a deal locally on bearings...will if needed but i don't see the need to buy the all balls kit when i have callahan bearing around the corner

The 750 bearings are a non-standard size.  The All-Balls set comes with a seal that snaps onto the bearing, and also two spacers of which you must choose one.  I use the thicker one for standard 750 applications.
