One of the sets I have from a 71 - 750 are original but are more blue than green. All else is the same and they are original...

Any ideas why they may be different?

I've got the same problem, one green and one blue. Would like to make both the same color, don't really care which on this F2. Maybe a pair of Yamiya faces, so they match?  ???

I've used flat black with good results. I was always intimidated by opening the chrome ring until I saw a jewlers tool a fellow Honda nut was using, and thats when I thought of the paint can opener. Cheap, easy and plentiful. Pretty painless too. You can have the ring off in about 20 minutes. I'm opening a gauge tonite that I've been into once before. I'll try to time it.

My bike (K0) had wrecked gauges inside chrome covers that fit over the plastic housing. One was so bad they cut it up to make the case fit into the cover. I am now working on some decent gauges to put inside the chrome. I don't think I even put the metal band back on, the chrome cup held it together. ;)

I owe you some pictures, Bob: been working long hours (that's good!) lately, haven't had much bike time this week. I'll post them here...

I had to repair my tach on a CB77. It was spinning wildly round and round. The spring had snapped and was wrapped around the shaft. Grrr! I tried to reset it. Its all back together now. I hope it works. The spring will never look like new but it seems to have tension similar to that of the speedo.

Where are you guys buying new faces from, I mean the insert with the numbers and dashes and such?
Or can you make your own?  Is there special paper or vinyl or something that you can print a design on?
Thanks, -K

Here's a pic of a set of gauge faces i drew up in AutoCAD....
I'm planning on getting them printed at a local sign printing company on RED vinyl...not too thick...in hopes that the light will glow through the red digits.

I made a few different designs....but these are my favourites...and what I will be using.
cheers!

I just realized...I should've probably put these in another post or something...my appologies.
Once the gauges are apart...these could come in handy though!

Cheers!

Here are mine. I cut the ring with a dremal tool. Jb welded back together. Then installed chrome bezels so it didn't matter that I cut them.

Any tips on flattening the faces on gauges,I have a couple that look like the face was sun heated and the face sagged down..

someone on the forum posted a tip for this by using a clothing iron.

Hi Folks,

This thread is exactly the info that I was searching for.

I have my tach / speedo apart (two halfs are split).  I used the paint can opener from Home Depot with very good results (only complaint is the number of times I stabbed my hands / fingers with the tool during the process!).

My question now is that I need to paint the outer black rings.  Do I just need to remove the rubber seal to have the inner green ring and lense come out?  I think I need all of that out before I can properly sand and paint.

I gotta flatten the speedo face place (I'll try the iron).  Then I need the stock looking decals for the plates.

Thanks for the great post and any help with my final dissassembly!

Scott

Not sure about the iron, but I heard of guys putting that face on a flat pan in the oven at low temp. Not sure of the temp but do a search and you may find it. Or someone here maybe recalls the temp.

Those are some nice looking custom gauge faces hednut.  I especially like the radioactive one.  Any chance you can make them in miles per hour and post them?

I got mine from nokrome.  They are Aluminum, and I'm very pleased with them. Don't know if he has more though.

Soichiro ...Glad you like em'! I live up here in Canada, so all the bikes I know have the metric gauge faces.  But if somebody could Scan their American faces into a JPG...and send it to me I could scale & post a la MPH.

Cheers!

Sorry for the late reply.  I don't have a pic of my gauge faces, but would any of these do the trick?
