Gauge Refurbishment
« on: November 28, 2007, 05:26:52 AM »
I am having problems with my gauges (Honda CB750 K2 speedometer and tachometer) and tried to refurbish with local (Brazilian) "specialists" but the result was very bad. They didn't have replacement parts for the internal mechanisms and had to improvise with parts from their junk boxes.

I wonder if there are repair kits available somewhere, or if somebody could recommend me a real professional place to refurbish these old gauges.

Many thanks

I seem to recall an ad in the back of the VJMC magazine for someone in California that refurbishes guages. Cost.. $600.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

you could do worse than e-bay

I bought eight (four of each) instruments for A$20 as a box lot and have rebuilt my originals & still have parts left

Does anyone know of a source for guage faces since Anubus closed down? I know Carpy has them but I want stock CB750K1 replacements.

Thanks, I forgot about Yamiya. But $150? I just want the new graphics and I think there's is for the actual faces with the jewels, etc.

I was lucky enough to purchase a set of 1971 guage faces from Anubis about a year ago. I needed an extra set so I'm having copy sets (10 pair) made up as we speak at my local sign shop. If they turn out as good as the originals, I planned on selling some. Let me know if anyone is interested in a set.

I figure $29.00 US. with postage included is fair.

Kaybee...how close is your 71 to the KO?  My factory date is 1/70.
If they are the same I would be interested.  Thanks

I believe that 70-71 are the same. Indicator lights are in the guages for both these years. In 1972 Honda re-designed the T-tree, took the lights out of the guages and put them in the handle bar clamp.

I got my first 6 sets of 70-71 guage faces from the decal shop and they were not as nice as I was expecting them to be. Definately useable though. They will need to be hand trimmed around the holes were white is showing. They were not as sharp as the origionals either.
I have taken the origonals to another place to see if they can produce a better set (I havent heard back yet so I don't know if they can improve on them).

At any rate, If you want a set of what I have in the pic, I'll sell them to cover the costs. $8.00 US (shipping included to Canada and US). If you choose to buy a set, you are buying them as they appear in the picture shown. These were stuck on to a piece of "Coreplast"...yours will come in the protective coverings.

As someone who designs for a living and has dealt with numerous printers I would just like to say that you should have not paid for that print. I would take them back and ask them to do it right. If anything you should be able to get a hold of the face design and bring it to them on a disc- it will turn out 1000% better than a scan.

Yes, very dissapionting. These people are supposed to be good at this type of thing. Although the origional guage faces were clear and had a black background, they told me ahead of time that they would print lighter than orig???...

All I can say is..."Tom"...you are the guage face man...help me/us...

There has been a guy on Ebay that completely refurbishes and tests them. He sells them mounted tach and speedo for upper $400.00's.
