I used to find that happened quite a lot when I used IE.  I don't know why but the only way of getting it back is to delete the "Favourite" and reinstall.  I tried posting on Microsoft once but never really got a good answer as to where these things were saved and why they kept disappearing.

Answer: Get Firefox !

I don't really mind that it has gone, it won't change my life much! I hate M/S but what is so good about Firefox?

No security issues!

Plus a host of extra goodies that you won't be able to live without once you've got'em (eg multiple windows in one browser session (tabbed), host of plug-ins available as this is open source s/w and anyone can write them)

Try it! (new version 1.5 available)

Daft question, but I assume Firefox is a browser?
Will I have to move all of my favourites etc, what a bout the pop blocker and virus protection s/w that I have?
Surely, there must be some downsides?

Jim, firefox has its own built in popup blocker, and it can import all of your internet explorer faveorates.

(eta) you can also get a plugin that blocks all flash content, since most flash content are ads anyway, I find this one to be pretty awesome.

I can't think of any downside.

The only downside that I ever found was that some websites are designed for the "quirks" of IE (rather than for the specification) and Firefox won't work!

That was true on www.honda-sohc.co.uk until John fixed it and also on the UK Government site for submitting your tax forms online! (now also fixed) - so no downside...

Yep.

But once you've used Firefox, you'll never go back

Well it works and it seems quicker than explorer, even though I don't see why it should be? I do not see any pop up blocker, do i need to load one?

Mosey around their website and check out the plugins. I use a really cool one that puts the weather forecast for the next two days in the toolbar. There are loads of others (including different "skins" that offer different look-and-feel and colour schemes (for the really sad)

the popupblocker is under "options" in the "tools" dropdown menu.  once that window is open it is under the "web features".  it is a checkbox for blocking popup windows.

Under tools I do not have a web features option? I have just found that the blocker is under contents and was already enabled.
So far, I must say that F/F is bloody quick. I was havimg probs with Hotmail and F/F seems to have the fixed them?
I hope I am not tempting providence and my laptop is about to go BANG!

on windows machine, one clicks on the "tools" pulldown menu select "options" at the bottom of that menu.  in the middle button on the left hand side of the window is a globe icon with "web features" under it.  That is where one finds the checkbox for popup blocking, although it is already checked by default.

for mac it is under the "firefox" pulldown menu under "preferences"

but now that I type this, I realize I am using 1.0.2, not 1.5.  I dunno if the new version is different.  I guess I should check that out.

eta

opps.  the button with the globe is now in the middle at the top of the window and just says "content" on version 1.5

So I guess that version 1.5 is the Firefox "K8" - different stuff in different places!

Exception being that everyone will eventually upgrade!  I'm not surprised that its different as it was hyped as a major upgrade.

And its only been available for about a week so its not surprising that few people (yet) use it...

More and more sites are putting these little images by their address. Does not change anything, just kinda like an attention getter.

I can't think of any downside.

It seems to work rather slowly for me. Is the latest version faster? Or is the problem all the damage that has been done to my computer with the spyware that has over run it in the past?

Dennis,
It certainly works for me, explorer was horrendous, particularly with Hotmail.
I found a brilliant tech forum that sorted out all of my spyware and hijacker problems for me. They walked me through all of the s/w cleaning, etc etc, it was really quite easy.
Go to:
http://www.techguy.org/    I can thoroughly recommend them.
Jim.
