What the heck is that favicon?

It looks like a psycho raindrop to me. Is it supposed to have some SOHC4 connection?

Check your browser address window.

In front of the "http://" bit theres a little blue thingy. I don't know if its called a "favicon" but I think that's what he may be on about.

It also sets itself to left of the name in your favourites.

Assume this works on IE as well - I haven't used IE since Firefox appeared. Now on version 1.5 (just released).

It represents the oil as it drips off your boot after blowing back from the cylinder head fins  8)

yes! firefox rocks...

so...what the 'eck is that little icon and how did it get assigned to the site? I always assumed the site hosters put those things up...it kind of looks like a little blue alien with goggles on...he's leaning over the bars, face into the stiff breeze...

All I have in my address window is the logo from the Explorer browser. I want a funny little blue alien thingy that represents oil dripping of boots!  :(

You computer literate types now all the latest buzz words. Btw, it's taking the piss, not taking a piss!  :) Unless of course you are taking a piss, and if you are I hope you wash your hands before you use the keyboard, as others have to use it after you.

Sorry about the cryptic message.
Yes, the favicon is that blue blob thing (for this site) that some browsers show in the bookmark/favorites list and address window.

It uses a special .ico extension graphics file format; if present in the webpage root directory as "favicon.ico" recent browsers will fetch and use it. One of the oddities of the .ico format is that several different sized graphics can be saved in the single file, many include 9 different size and color depth combinations although there doesn't seem to be a limit on how many you want to include... depending on the OS and where it's to be displayed the most appropriate version will be used. The different versions can all be different images too, although that would be pretty strange in practice.
